    hello

    this is my first post

i have just got a 2002 a6 avant and everything seems fine except that the front side lights don't seem to work and neither do the rear fog lights?

is this a case of bulbs and/or fuses or something more sinister?

    any help appreciated

    Hi,

There's only one rear foglight (offside) and like the front sidelights, it should give you a bulb failure warning when switched on (second pull on the lighting switch).

If there's no warning, it's more likely (but not certain!) to be the associated fuse.

My 2000 avant doesn't give a warning for the front sidelights.

It does warn for brake bulbs, rear sidelights and headlamps - I've not had any others fail to check the warnign system.

Personally, if they're not working, I'd change the bulbs first, then look at the fuses, then look at the wiring on the back of the lamp clusters.

I think the fog lamp bulb needs the interior trim panel to be removed to get to it.

Remove the panels in the boot, the ones for the cd multichanger and the one opposite then remove the bulb circuit board.

    ash .
open bonnet, then on left side (of thr car), pull up the squarish plastic cover that's over the pas fluid reservoir.
on the right side, pull up the cover over the air filter housing, then pull up and out the air duct going from the grill to the air filter.

Now both sides are the same method:
Unclip the two spring clips which hold the back cover of the headlamps. Now wriggle the covers about until they come up out of the gap (they do come out with a bit of wiggling).
Grip the side lamp housing and pull it straight out backwards.
Fit new bulb and push housing back in.
Refit covers, spring clips and ducts and covers.

One last step: Fit elastoplast over the cuts and scratches over your hands.

It's not that bad after you've done it a few times - you can then manage it with just a few scratches.

my left hand is currently cut in three place and my right in eight (two right on the end of my index finger) - and i still failed!!!!!!

there is nowhere near enough room - maybe its because of the v6 lump!

took it to my local garage and they did it for me by removing the inner wheel arches!!!

the fog light seems to be a dodgy lamp holder that has been bodged in the past!

i put led's in with the hope that they will last forever!

It is possible, but it does take a lot of wiggling to get he covers out of the way.

I find it quite easy now - no cuts, and it only takes a couple of minutes, and I haven't exactly got small hands.
