the car is a 1996 vw golf mark3 1.4 with an aex engine code.its doen 105k miles

i read the codes using vag.com

and it came up with :

    00525- O2 Sensor - Voltage Low

    00625-vehicle speed sensor.

could someone tell me what these are?

The codes may not mean anything. Have you cleared them to see if they come back.
The O2 sensor is your lambda probe in the exhaust. Have you got a mil light on. The speed sensor is a speed sensor. This doesn't mean it has a fault.

the car tends to cut out sometimes when cornering.

then code 00525 for th lambda sensor says low voltage-does that mean anything.

    no mil light on.

i will try to reset all codes to see if they recur.

The ecu monitors the lambda probe signal to adjust fueling. It is not measuring the voltage as such, but a voltage signal. The signal has to be within "range" so the ecu flags a code if the voltage is too high, too low or shorted to ground. This doesn't have to be a fault because a momentary drop in voltage can occur at any time. Your cut out when cornering may well be the speed sensor. I would replace that and see how you go.
