    HI everyone,

I am a little confused with the fault i have on my A6. I have a fault thats intermittent, while driving the individual lights on the r/h/r cluster stop working one by one but if i turn ignition off and then all lights are working again. this keeps happening over and over again. sometimes it will happen at the start of my journey or happen maybe 10 mins into journey. i have a 56 plate 2.0TDI can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance chris

I had this exact problem on my last car (2005 A6 saloon). It was caused by a faulty earth connection, which my dealer found and rectified.

    Regards,

    MF.

I had the same problem on my 2007 saloon, but it got progressively worse over a few weeks before the warnings appeared within a minute or so of starting the car. It drove me up the wall!!

The dealer said there was a problem with the rear light assembly which they replaced under warranty.

I actually had this two weeks ago. Turned out it was a corroded bulb holder. Was throwing up 'bulb out' warning on the dash. Warranty covered the holder but it wouldve been £33 + £100 for labour

    Hi there,

I have had the same fault several times on both sides of my 2007 A6, unfortunately my warranty was out by about a month so no joy with my dealer! (Huntingdon Audi are not good at aftercare, thin and rusting paintwork on a 18 month old 'approved used' is not their responsibility but thats a different gripe!)

The first repair was a new small single spade earth connection to the cluster, which was a £160 (or a very expensive car wash and tin of sweets!). I have found a way to sort it, by adding a new earth connection to the cluster directly. The tiny connection is just not big enough for the load it takes, and it is a design fault as far as I can see.
I drilled a small hole and soldered a new earth to the cluster, and connected to the earth point near the rear fuse box, seems to be holding for now.

Cleaning the connections may help for a short while, but combined with the level of condensation in the lights (another design fault), it wont last long.
The beeps that deafen for each bulb out (thats 7 if it is a right cluster as it includes the number plate lights) is very very annoying

Hope this helps anyone with the same issue, my advice, hope it goes wrong while the warranty is still good and get in there for your free new clusters to combat the misting problem!
