    Hello All,

With so many injector issues on this forum, can you tell me what are the symptoms before one goes or does it just happen out of the blue one day without any obvious signals or warnings?
I know this mostly occurs on the 2.0 with the Siemens injectors (Thanks to Martin1080's detail knowledge & findings) but anyone had this issue with the 1.9?

    I have a 55plate 1.9 TDI with 115K on the clock.
Every now and then I get the Steering lock Column error which started over a year ago but seems to disappear for good couple of months and then return. Within the last couple of weeks (in this cold weather) when starting the car in the mornings, It fails to start with the glow plugs light flashing & error message “Engine fault…) but it starts the second time around after waiting for about 30 secs for everything to clear.
I’m a bit worried that an Injector maybe on its way out and if so may shut down the car on the motorway on a journey to/from work.

Or it maybe the car battery as it’s cold and it’s never been changed before? I will get this changed on the weekend to see if it makes any difference.

Battery charge is the 1st thing to do, make sure you undo the neg terminal before hand or you'll fry the ecu.

I don't think you have inj trouble, possible glow plugs (not normally an issue on 1.9's though) or the steering ecu is failing, but you should start off with a good battery before going down this road, as the car is a computer in itself and lack of power causes all sorts of things, if that is the original battery it will be on it's last legs by now anyway.

Lets hope it's just the cold killing a cell or two eh, 1.9 vs 2.0 engine is like the difference between a chauffeur and a cabby, i.e the cabby might smell a bit and sound rough, but it won't keep sticking it's nose in the air and refusing you.

Thanks DSG4ME, I'll let you know how I get on with the Battery change first.
Should get a good idea if it's worked within the next two weeks.
    Thanks again.

The 1.9 tdi doesn't suffer injector problems like the 2.0 pd. It should not cut out suddenly. Get a fault code read. You may have a glow plug fault. Without a code read it is pointless guessing.
