Seeing as I don't have any (even though it should be standard!) I'm looking at installing some footwell lights for both passenger and driver.

Has anyone gone 3rd party and put some LED strips in? Because it's quite cheap to do, I was going to get a small strip of blue or red LEDs (with 3m backing), then put them hidden below the glovebox and above the pedals. Then I was going to route the wiring up through the pillar and headlining to link with the automatic interior lights...

I want to avoid having to mess with VAG-COM with the VW original puddle/footwell lighting...

    thanks.

edit: I've just got some osram 501's to replace all the interior lighting, just to brighten things up...

Been thinking of doing something similar. I think I remember someone else saying that the actual holders for the bulbs are quite cheap. Might fit them with some LED bulbs and wire it up to the roof lining. I replaced the single bulb in the boot of my saloon with 2 LED strips. Standard bulb was pants, even with a super bright LED bulb.

LIKE the idea of the strip in the boot - pennies off ebay and I bet really easy to wire into the existing bulb too.. and because you're not technically replacing the bulb (just adding to it) you won't get a bulb out warning either.

This sounds like something to get my teeth into at the weekend....

I'll get a picture up for you later. There quite blue for me but they will do for now. Do interior bulbs give a bulb out error? I didn't think they do.

I thought they did for the overhead lights, but may be wrong...

On a separate note, I replaced all the interior 501s with Osram Clear Blues, and the difference is outstanding - well worth recommending - I will try and get some photos, but it's notoriously difficult to get a shot that shows how good they look!

If you don't mind me asking, how much were they? I went for LEDs as they work out at about £1 each and I can get the same colour for the vanity lights, and globe box.

It was around £7.50 for 2 packs of 2 bulbs. After installing I noticed that the overhead lights use three bulbs, not two, so just ordered another pack to eliminate all the yellow light...

Sorry to piggy back on this topic but does anyone know if a 2006 55 plate 2.0 tdi sport should have the exterior puddle lights in the door?

And if not fitted as standard is it possible to install/activate as I actually miss this from my old 1999 B5 SE!

Why you might ask? - I almost trod in some doggy do getting out the car outside the mother in laws on these now darker nights and can't help feeling I would've seen the poo if I'd got the puddle lights.

    Cheers,

    Scottie
