Just dont go changing things. It tells you what is safe and what you need to be carefull with. As long as you write things down, you can always change it back. If you have any questions, be sure to ask as everyone is a student when it comes to diagnostics no matter how long they have been doing it !!!

There are some .xls coding files that you can download from my site. These allow you to make changes as if you were using VCDS to see what some changes to coding should do.

Yes and No. The files on my site are for the B6 passat. They are based on the label files for the B6 passat.
When you run a VCDS autoscan on your car you should see a line saying label file. That is the file for your car.
So the options, changes etc that are available for your car will be on the screen according to that label file.
If you plug your VCDS into a B6 passat you will get the B6 label file options which are the ones on my site.
Using the .xls files on my site means you can see what changes actually do and how a shift in one 0 or zero can have a larger effect than you might expect.
People are always getting things wrong with VCDS, partly through ignorance and partly because VAG make changes to hardware and software that we don't know about until we stumble across them. So a coding may work for a car built one month but not work for a car built one month later because a controller has been changed.

Never assume all changes are reversible. Some are not and must not be attempted. Best to ask on a forum before making changes.

Massive thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread.

There was a time when everyone would recommend a pirated copy and a cheap ebay lead.

We've not got members self policing and recommending the "proper-job" VCDS bundles.

That makes me so proud - thank you

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

My first job when the vcds arrives will be to re-set the service indicator as I had the service done at my friendly local indy. Is that straight forward to do. Hopefully a nice easy one to start with!

There is a button on the first screen for Servic Reset Interval (SRI). You just pick the one you want. Remember the reset may not show on the cars service display for several hundred miles, depends on model.
