I locked my car with the keyfob the other evening aneverything was OK.
In the morning my wife went to get into the car but the remote keyfob
    did not work.
in the afternoon she told me about this, so I went about changing the
    battery in the keyfob.
I put a new battery in it and checked the old battey which was reading
3.3 volts on my multimeter (the battery is fine).
anyway, with the new battery fitted I pressed the button on the keyfob
and it set off my remote doorbell in my house.(I now know the keyfob is transmitting).
I went to my car, pressed the keyfob -- nothing happens, so I went back to
my house, pressed the keyfob again and the doorbell rang.
    what can be the problem???????
    Can anyone help me please
    DUNCAN (IN DESPAIR).

I had this (not the doorbell bit though) and after asking on all the forums and buying (then getting a refund of £2.99) off ebay I finally worked it out myself.
I put one key in the door, the other in the ignition, powered up the car (not started) and pressed one of the buttons and it worked.

Hope this helps, as it took me a year to work it out!!

I guess you could replace the doorbell

Sorry could not resist. These cars amaze me sometimes, laughing at someone else's expense is a bit poor of me. That said mine is sat out on the drive most likely obtaining an indoor swimming pool in this crap weather.

Sounds like the post above may be your fix at least.

    Good luck

    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

My parents have two remote table lamps in the living room, (old man likes his toys). When i had my celica, if i locked it on the drive and the lamps were on, it used to turn the lamps off. Strange eh. At least they knew i was there i suppose.
