Air intake pipe blowing off.

Hi, I'm new to all this. An air intake pipe blew off tonight,(right hand side, below engine cover, going down to behind headlight, viewed from in front), the car became very noisy and ran like a dog. Car in question is Passat TDI 130, 2001.
I refitted the pipe, (although the lugs on the sides look to have partially snapped off), and it blew off again as I tried to accelerate. I will buy a new pipe tomorrow, but does anyone know what could have caused it? I am worried as this car is my pride and joy and I want to nip any possible turbo problems in the bud.

my car has just done the same thing.how did you fix it and was it a vw rip off for new pipes fitting etc?

Hi Olly, The new pipe,(approx 4" diameter), was about £35, arrived next day, took 5 minutes to fit, and hasn't blown off again. I subsequently learnt that it has something to do with the intercooler, and is an occasional problem on these cars. All the best.

i got it thru my vw dealer and it was £36.that was in stock but the clips for it took 5 days to come.get new top and bottom clips too,theyre £1 each or so.
easy to put on too,thanks to confused for giving me the confidence.
