Does anybody have any recommendations (or ones to avoid) for a large roofbox that will fit the Audi roof bars (I already have these for the standard rails on my A6 Avant)?

I will be traveling with the family (so two adults, two childeren and two huskies will leave little space inside the car), so I would guess I would need at least 700 litres....

Does anyone have the maximum allowed roof loading figures to hand?

    Largest roof box I've seen advertised is 580 litres/volume @ Half**ds.

Have you considered buying a small trailer instead?
It would be a lot more versatile and you would'nt have to reach up to load and unload!

    Regards.

I've bought a load of gear from this lot and they're good. http://www.roofbox.co.uk

My roofbox is a Kamei - German manufacturer and good quality.

Those Kamei boxes look well constructed, how do they compare to the Thule or Halfords Exodus?
I see the Exodus only hinges one side, which could be awkward, would two narrow boxes (one hinging left, one hinging right) be better, or pay more for a dual opening box?

A trailer would have some advantages, but would raise my ferry costs, and give me a problem of where to put it whaen not in use.

The Kamei boxes have come out on top in the Auto Express product tests on quite a few years running. I based my choice on that and have no regrets so far.

The one side opening isn't a problem for me but the roofbox site has quite a bit of advice - two boxes gives you flexibility but you've also got to store them somewhere I suppose.
