    Hey all!

I've had a quote of £165 from Euro Performance Ltd (Audi Indy) in South Wales to retrofit cruise control to my A4 quattro. Is this a good quote? I called Audi in Cardiff and they are selling the kit (excluding fitting) for around £195+VAT. Seems like the indy is supplying and fitting all the kit a lot less than i can buy from audi direct!

Will the indy make any profit from that job? Just thinking the quote sounds too good to be true!

    many thanks in advance!

I assume your talking about a B7 A4 quattro? (Can't find your vehicle info anywhere -so I am assuming this - as its a B7 forum )

Does your vehicle have either steering wheel controls? (radio etc) or tiptronic paddles on the back of the steering wheel?

If yes to either you should have already the latest switch control ecu, and all you will need is the Audi retrofit kit (8e0054690 -I think?) which is about £35 +vat and a different lower steering cowl (with extra cut-out for the switch ), which is about £25+vat.

You can even go cheaper by not purchasing the kit and buying just the switch itself (4E0 953 521 B 4PK) which is about £25 + vat. The only difference being the kit contains fitting instructions and an unnecessary loom that is only required for the A6.

If in doubt about your switch module you should -if possible- interogate the the switch module electronically via the onboard diagnostic port. (vag-com etc.) The part number displayed for the module should be 8E0 953 549 R. If you have any other version - P or even S - you'll need to (probably) buy a new module at about £125 + vat.

I think this is what your dealer is quoting for.

    R & Q support cruise
If you have multi function steering wheel then you only need the cruise switch £25 and the lower cowling £25 then the labour to fit and code

Thanks guys for all the replies!

I'm not quite sure what the difference is between the numbers... B7, b6, etc. Does that correspond to a year, or does B7 cover a few years? I only got my new A4 quattrro on wednesday night! (not brand new)

My new car is an 2006 A4 2.0T FSI Quattro S Line Special Edition 220bhp - slightly longer title than my previous car... volvo s60 D5 SE! I love the car! Slightly nervous of the reduced mpg, but i guess i can't worry too much about that!

There are a few buttons on the steering wheel... two scrolling buttons on either side (next / previous track & volume). There's also two other buttons (mode?) and cant remember the other one... they just say no function when i click them.

That seems quite cheap for the retrofit kit! So do you get the stalk in that kit? And does that include any relays / wiring? I assume the kit contains everything required.

If i just buy the switch for £25+vat where does the switch mount? Is it a stalk (similar to the indicator stalk) or is it a small box switch that you stick to the dash?

Cheers for the info Lateknight! That vag-com software... can i buy that fairly cheap off the net and does it come with a lead to connect a laptop, or is it a magic box with a plug to plug into the on board computer? Apologies for not knowing my stuff on the audi, but i've only had it 2 days!

Cheers A8 Tech! I'll give audi another call tomorrow (or monday if they're closed on weekends) and maybe order the parts.

And cheers Ben for the instructions! I'll check those out now!!

It's nice to see that people are so helpful on this website! Looking forward to some interesting discussions as time goes on!
    cheers guys!

Dan... many thanks for your PM. I tried to PM you back, but it said because I havent got enough posts yet I can't PM you! It deleted my message as well after I typed a lengthy reply! Agghh!

Many thanks for your PM Dan. Just wondering how far you are from South Wales. I work in Bristol if that would be easier. And obviously you'll want to cover at least expenses, how much would you charge to install?

As you've recently fitted it yourself, did you only buy a switch / stalk and the new cover with the larger cutout?
And the vagcom... was that expensive? Just wondering if its worth me getting that so i can read fault codes / change settings, etc. Not sure if it's a handheld device with a plug to plug into the car, or is it software to go on a laptop?

    cheers!

One other question... does the stalk replace the indicator stalk, or, will i have an additional stalk?
    cheers

It doesnt replace it, you'll have an extra stalk underneath the indicator one.

Its additional to the other stalks on the column.

Nearly forgot - you'll also need 2 screws N90906802 (£0.10p ea) to hold the switch if you dont opt for the kit.
Your sounds identical to mine so you will have the correct switch module fitted already from the factory - as you have multifunction wheel.

So all you need is: Switch - 4E0953521B4PK - £26.12+vat
    2 screws - N90906802 - £0.09p each +vat
    Lower Cowl - 8E0953512P 6PS* (for near black trim*) - £25.59 + vat

    * other trim colours available - but yours should be black with yours being a special edition

It'll need fitting - which involves removing steering wheel inc. airbag -caution req'd here for novices-
It will also req coding onto the vehicle.

    B6 - Audi A4 between 2001 - 2005.
    B7 - Audi A4 between 2005 - 2008

Main differences are the full height radiator grille on the B7 (B6 had seperate upper and lower grille split by the bumper). B7s also have 2 piece taillights - 1 on body, 1 on boot/tailgate (B6 has single piece on body only)

Just caught up with this thread, cheers for the info all, something my car should have had but I didn't realise it was so cheap to retro fit.

A question though, to recode the car after fitting? I presume that is an Audi thing or local Audi specialist? Sorry newish to A4 ownership myself

    TIA
