Ukdan... what beer do you drink matey?!! I may take you up on your offer! Are there any potential issues removing the steering wheel / airbag? Is there any chance it could deploy? Will the steering wheel go back on as it came off - alignment wise? How confident are you at fitting? Sounds like you know what you're doing as you've done it on your own car already, got all the kit and can use the vagcom software!

Would be nice to have it fitted!
Only issue with removing steering wheel/airbag is if you discharge any static when removing or installing. Just need to be carefull and discharge yourself. Steering wheel position should not change as you mark it before removing.

    Hey all!

Quick question... does the cruise control on the A4 brake when going down the hill? My old volvo 2002 S60 had cruise control and maintained the speed on level ground, and increased the speed when going up an incline. But on a downwards slope the cruise control does not apply the brakes. I know the BMW cruise control slows the car down on a hill, so was wondering if the Audi A4 does or not?

    many thanks in advance!

Can someone confirm to me that all I reqiure to retrofit cruise control to my A4 B7 3.0TDi tiptronic convertible is the new stalk and lower cowling then have it turned on by a diagnostic tool by the dealer or specialist.

    Regards.

You will need to check the part number for the steering column control unit.
As long as it ends in Q or R then it will be ok.

The general rule is if you have a multifunction steering wheel - ie wheel mounted controls for audio etc. and/or tiptronic buttons on the back of the steering wheel, then you should already have one of the two steering column control units that can be adapted for cruise control.
As UKdan stated this should be either part number 8E0953549R or ...549Q. Difficult to find the part number unless you interogate the control unit via the on-board diagnostic port using vag-com or similar.

All you need is the switch, 2 switch screws (thanks for the reminder, Audi thrunthru) and the modified lower cowl and someone to fit (if your not brave enough yourself) and code it in.
    Sorted.

A switch and 2 screws should be all you need the lower cowling can be cut out as there is a faint marking on the inside of cowl where to cut using side cutters and half round file to finish if your up to it, might as well have a go 1st cos your never gona take it back off r u?
from memory when i used to fit them as long as the steering wheel electronics number didnt end in N it was ok.

If its got full D.I.S should just be switch 2 screws and cowling (optional) and coding .5 at dealer or vag.com can do it maybe even snap on in expert mode.

To be sure you don't need a new steering column control unit, you'll need to have tiptronic gear switches on the steering wheel, and/or multifunction steering wheel (radio controls).
If thats the case just switch and screws (if your willing to cut the lower cowl -as suggested), and a re-code and you should be all set to go.
