1993 Audi 1.9TDI. Just developed a fault where fuse 14- instrument illumination and number plate light blows when sidelights are turned on. I've pulled out the bulbs on the number plate lamps, lamps around ventilation controls, lamp under bonnet and disconnected instrument cluster completely to no avail, any ideas? Only thing I can think of is the switch stalk itself. How can something like this suddenly go short?

It could be the wiring loom itself rather than the actual consumer. have a look at the Boot/Tailgate loom what carries the wiring to the Numberplate lamps. It`ll be iside a rubber sheath.

Thanks Guys good suggestion, turned out to be the glove box. light switch which had become jammed up by the service manual and was shorting out! All I need now is a load of new fuses. I always have trouble getting the glove box to shut and the manual binder doesn't really seem to fit. cheers John
