Roof worked fine during recent holiday. When attempting to open it on the last day of the holiday the front levers opened and the roof opened by about 2 inches. The flashing amber light on the dashboard came on. I used the manual technique to close the hood. Have tried to open it automatically three times since but the amber warning light comes on. Left it into my mechanic who called a specialist electrician. They cannot find anything. At a loss to know what to do, short of leaving it into a dealer for a megabucks investigation! It appears that the back panel is not lifting up so the hood starts to come up but then stops. You can hear the motors working. Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Assuming the A4 roof works in the same way as the 80 one. I would have thought it would be something to do with the interlock between the boot and the roof lid. The car is possibly thinking that the boot is open and won't open the roof lid. This is a common problem on the 80 to do with the two wiring looms that go into the boot lid.

Thats exactly what i had, its a faulty wiring loom or boot shut sensor, it thinks the boot is open so wont allow the lid to open.

Audi sorted mine with anew loom fitted for about £200.

    Hi Russ,

I get the same thing every spring after not putting the roof down over the winter. Every year I have to clean the motor, so this year I made a video: Audi A4 Cabriolet - fix for roof not opening - YouTube

It’s an easy fix, takes 20-30 mins
