Code readers and reseters..... best ones?

As I have seen trawling through the forum lots of people mention reading codes etc. I had a look on the Bay to see if there was a code reader and there are shed loads of them.......

So do you need to buy the one that reads and resets the codes and another one to reset the service timers as my car is going nowhere near an Audi dealer! I will be servicing the car at my own service intervals not theirs (every 4-6K as its done 100K) so will want to reset the service timer every now and again.

Or is there some software that will do all this so I can just use my diddy laptop?

Thanks Lateknight.... takes the bloody Yanks to sort it for our cars though will get this in due course.
