A friend of mine owns an 1998 (S) A3 1.6 Sport that has unfortunately developed a fault. She thinks this is a electrical fault as sometimes the car will just cut out but only on tickover and only if its been standing for around 5 mins. Also theres a lack of power when driving.

Any ideas please for a damsel in distress?

I am ok with a set of spanners but have no access to diagnostics to look into the fault?

    Neil

With the lack of diagnostics, I would start by checking plugs/leads/dizzy & ignition coil.

Engine code would be handy, also if you can get a codescan will help you trace the fault quicker
