    Hi

I recently purchased a B5.5 130bhp SE 2001 passat. I have some invoices for the service history and was assured it was kept regularly serviced but would like to do a good service on it myself.

What kind of things should I be doing a quick list

Oil change (What oil should I be using and how many miles should I get to a change)
    Oil Filter
    Air Filter
    Pollen Filter
    Fuel Filter???

Also I need to get someone to have a good look at the suspension but in general there appears to be a good amount of rubber left on the bushings.

Is there any preventative things I can do which are cheap to avoid known problems. I know about the damp issue and experienced a small bit of water in the footweel so I gave the drain a clean out and will reseal the pollen filter if i get any other problems. What about the MAF sensor, what is this? Should I clean it or replace it...

The timing belt has been done but if theres anything else I should be looking out for on a newly purchased car I would appreciate the info.

you will need pd oil that meets vw spec 505.01 or 507.01 , oil filter is just a paper insert , if you do change the fuel filter you will need a 13mm allan key and fill it with clean derv upon refit.

maf = mass air flow meter - if the cars running well just leave it , cleaning them can kill them.

You need all the filters from GSF, about £30 in total, and a good 5/30 oil, if you subscribe to the 505 routine, GSF do a Fuchs that's good, if like me you know it's horse, any good 5/30 will do, I use VX branded myself, and before anyone tells me off, 100k engine, 50k on VX, no tapping etc, choice is yours.
