Hi i'm new to this forum. I have problems finding the difference between some types of engines. I'm considering tuning my car. I know that i will loose my guarantee, so this tuning will be done at a professional workshop. But i need to be sure, because they tune the 143 bhp engine just as much as the 120. To 180. And i find that very strange if the TDI engines are different built.

So, I wonder if you can tune a 120 bhp as much as a 143 bhp car? Without damage to the motor?

    =)

    Edit: I meant between 120 and 143!

The 90kW, 103kW, 120kW and 125kW engines are all the same mechanically, so remapping a 103kW tp 120kW shouldn't do any harm to the engine. It is going above 125kW that may be a problem. Engine data here. http://sites.google.com/site/1810mar...b6-engine-data

That's interesting. Is the difference between the 140 and the 170 just down to software then? If so, why the different engine code?

I read somewhere that the 170 had a bigger turbo than the 140 (and that was why the 170 had a bigger turbo lag). Do you know if this is correct?

My original reply related to the engine internals. The 125kW engines use a different turbo to the 103kW engines but I don't know if it is any bigger.

170's all have dpf's, some 140's do, but it was an optional thing back then.
