I take it it is a 2.0 tdi if so they are very slow to warm up in the cold weather . i have been asking the same question myself on here i have recently bought an a4 2.0tdi cr 177ps it takes an age to warm up and that is with a new audi thermostat fitted . it as improved recently because i have covered half of the radiator with 2" aluminium tape it now warms up a bit quicker due to reduced cold air flow and keeps warm once it gets to 90c that is as long as you do not have the interior heater on too high . not good for a modern audi is it i have always had diesel cars and this is by far the worst for slow warming up. also this must be affecting the MPG because that is another issue i am not happy with it is a lovely quiet smooth engine spoiled by these issue . many years ago i had a 1.9tdi 130ps remapped to 170ps sounded like a tractor but warmed up quick and sipped fuel . we are 15 years on from that engine and whilst the 2.0 cr it smooth and refined as diesels go audi seem to have gone backwards as regards warm up and MPG
Ah ok cheers it is poor but I have just noticed mine isn’t even reaching 90 at all I’m sure it used to and the reason I started looking was it lower on mpg at the moment for some reason . Feels like it’s being held back
Thermostat is stuck open. Mine has exactly the same issue right now. About £50 for the complete unit, looks like an easy job to replace. Let us know how you get on.

Agree if it is not reaching 90c even on a decent motorway run then yes stuck open thermostat . mine was exactly the same so i had the thermostat replaced with the timing belt and water pump it did improve but dont expect miracles in the cold weather your never going to be sweating on the way to work
Ah I see it must of only just happened the first thing I notice my mpg got worse then notice it wasn’t getting up to temp . I will find one and get it replaced then and should be better again
Been on google can’t find where the coolant temp sensor is and also what type it is as there seems to be a couple
Cheers
