Re: 1.4 TSI Crank Oil Seal
I am taking a guess here that it is a 2008 ish CAXC engine? These do not use the diamond washer but the O ring N 909 032 01 is definitely there, or should be! The seal is made from Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE commonly known as Teflon. The key point with a PTFE seal is that the surface it runs on MUST be absolutely clean and dry and with no trace of oil or grease on the surface or indeed added to the face of the seal, basically as dry and clean as humanly possible. You are taking a huge risk removing the crank pulley on this engine if the crank is not locked with the T10340 pin and you do not use a dial gauge through number 1 plug hole to ensure you are at TDC. The original bolts were often 19mm 12 sided and the new ones 21mm and these must be torqued up to spec or it can come undone, this is so difficult to do that you need the proper 3415 crank pulley locking tool which engages in the pulley slots and bears against the chassis and then a very long and strong bar with a 3/4" drive and it takes so much force that there is a very real danger of dragging the car off of a two post lift. The specified torque is 150Nm+ 180°. Ohh yes, the point of these seals... low drag, reduced Co2, another example of the blinkered obsessed insane race to reduce Co2 at the expense of all else...
