Urgent advice needed - fuel filler flap stuck?
You guys may recall I posted into the battery drain thread, where my car has failed to start, had 2-3 new batteries etc etc.
It has been at the dealership for around 4 days while they've had it hooked up checking to what drain there may or may not be.
During this process they've shut off this n that etc etc but surely the fuel filler cap can't be part of this routine??
I have it back ( inconclusive results and basically no further forward! ) but the problem I have is this.....
I'm low on fuel and need to fill her up....the fuel filler flap seems stuck in some way ( I've never experienced this before?? ).....I don't think they would have done anything with this during their procedure, but it seems locked fast and will not budge.
I can't imagine its frozen as its not that cold, currently around -1 and has opened no problems in temps down to -18 or so!!!
Seems strange to me  Any of you ever experienced this before and can you give any advice on how to open it ( preferably without damaging it) ???
Any advice you can offer, greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance :beerchug:
Re: Urgent advice needed - fuel filler flap stuck?
Can you hear the solenoid trying to pop the filler door?
On the Passat you can pull back the boot lining and tug the solenoid from the inside.
Could be a build up of freezing/thawing/freezing etc

Thanks mycarsav for the reply.
Not sure what you mean by solenoid exactly?
My fuel filler cap is as simple as pushing one end of it inwards and it then essentially springs open!
BUT.....It doesn't want to seem to play ball:zx11:

Ah, sorry, I assumed as you had an all singing/dancing A6 there'd be a remote release.
My lowly ageing Passat has a button on the drivers door.
Sounds like you have a push-to-release cap, does a screwdriver fit in the gap so you can prise it open? Wrap it in a cloth first to prevent scratching
Re: Urgent advice needed - fuel filler flap stuck?
No A6s have a remote release :( However Jim, as mycarsavw says, theres a manual relase in the boot behind the removeable trim where the jack stays :) I think its a tug/cord thing but not totally sure.

Behind removable trim where the jack you will see green tug/cord.

Yep - there is a metal peg which engages into a hole on the back of the filler flap when the car is locked (to prevent anyone from trying to syphon fuel out). Sounds like this is not disengaging when you unlock the car. As stated above, there should be a green cord behind the boot trim on the right hand side to manually disengage the peg.
I'd get your dealer to take a look when you get chance - sounds like either the solenoid actuating the peg has failed/seized or become disconnected. Given the proximity of it to the battery in the boot, something may have been disturbed when they were checking out your battery drain problem?
Good luck!!
MF.
Re: Urgent advice needed - fuel filler flap stuck?
thanks to you all who replied and gave sound advice. I just checked and there is a RED ripcord ( I was a bit hesitant to pull at first as it looked attached to something else entirely ) however, a gentle tug and the fuel flap opened up fully:D
It looks like for some reason the locking pin does not now retract fully:confused:
Anyhow, a quick call to the dealer and I'll be popping in again tomorrow to pick up some parts I've ordered and they'll look at it then and hopefully fix it quickly.
Thanks again guys :beerchug:
