Fault code "Emmissions Workshop!
Hi
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Got this fault code a few days ago on my wife's 2004 2.0 TDi Touran "Emmissions Workshop!". No such code mentioned in hand book. Took it to local, usually excellent independent VW specialist and despite having the latest VW diagnostic software, they don't have this fault code in the system. They suggest I take it to VW main dealer, and think that VW will have to send fault code online to Genmany for diagnosis, which from previous bad experienceswith VW main dealers I am reluctant to do. The car is running fine, although the garage have spotted that the cooling fan is not kicking in, although they can manually override it. We don't think it has overheated though, and garage can't detect any problems caused by overheating. We have also noticed that the car, which has always needed topping up with water fairly frequently (every 2 months or so) has needed topping up with water more frequently recently (every 2-3 weeks) although the garage cannot trace a leak. Any suggestions?

As a suggestion;
Find someone on here with vagcom (look in the vagcom sub-forum) and get the exact fault code number. Whilst doing that they should be able to go into the various measuring blocks for the engine (measuring blocks = sensor outputs / input etc) to see if anything is amiss.
My guesses (and they are pure guesses) to your problems are;
1, Emissions workshop is probably EGR valve related.
2, Water loss is probably, again, EGR related or worse still head gasket failure.
You really need to get it diagnosed properly and as above obtain the actual fault code number and / or interogate and view the measuring blocks to obtain and more balanced view. Just because the "computer say NO" doesn't mean there are other answers available. Hopefully those answers can be found for far less than you are paying at the moment, find the right person in the vagcom sub-forum and all it will cost you is a few beers.

Does EGR mean Exhaust Gas Recirculation?
And, forgive my ignorance, should I be able to get the exaxt fault code number from the garage who have looked at it, even if they don't have that fault on their system?
Thanks

Is this the engine number stamped on our car engine (and in manual) or just the general code for this type of engine?
Re: Fault code "Emmissions Workshop!
The engine code is on the sticker on the timing belt cover or the second page of your service book something like AZV BKD BMM (3 letters)

Can't find a sticker on timing belt cover. Loads of numbers/letters in book, not sure which is the right one, so here they all are.

Re: Fault code "Emmissions Workshop!
My problem was diagnosed as a failure of the 'flap control motor'. I'm not sure exactly what this does other than it is something on the inlet side to do with emission control. £320 to sort it out and running fine now (although still losing a small amount of water which I still can't trace)

I have just been stumped for a few days with a similar water problem on an 04 a3 where it was loosing water but from nowhere obvious and after a few head banging hrs have accertained that it was a slightly leasky radiator and as it was leaking via the inside top section on the front of the radiator the water was evaporating before it had any chance to escape.
