1.9TDI coolant loss - ATTN Crasher!
Hi Crasher
You answered my post over on honestjohn about a coolant leak/gunk in expansion tank, being a failing oil cooler. Thanks for that. However, if the cooler was leaking, wouldn't I see an oil film in the expansion tank as well? The brown scum in the expansion tank is right up on the neck where cap screws in (and also on the underside of the side).
Anyway, I'm planning to remove the cooler and pressure test it, so will go from there.

Hi
Is the issue sorted.I have coolant system overpressurising and mechanic suggested head gasket failure. I am not sure if he is right. He did a hydrocarbon test and said you have a leak in HG which is over pressurising the system. Any ideas?

No, in short! I've given up on the car and it's going to an auction soon. Likely fact that the head gasket has gone (in the least), coupled with the belt needing to be done soon, the dmf on it's way out, rust on the tailgate around the VW badge, the fact that it chews out front tyres despite the tracking being checked regularly and various other stupid Mk5 faults, means I've had enough of the car and want shot of it. Not a patch on my Passat B5.5, and suffice to say my wife will NOT be getting another Golf Mk5, or anything else based on that platform, or indeed any other VAG car designed from 2003 onwards.......

Thanks, I just posted the issue in detail. I bought the passat last month and am confused if I should sell or get it repaired. Anyways, thanks a lot.

Hi,
I have a '55 1.9 TDI Golf Plus . Until recently the fan continued to operate for a while after the engine was turned off presumably to cool the engine. It no longer runs after i switch off. Is this serious and what can I do to return it to the original function?
