Coolant liquid - consumption
Hi,
I have done timing belt service 1,5 year ago with new coolant (G13) and water pump. From that time I have passed 25000km. I have notice slight consumption of coolant but I did not top up until today. On the begging it was on max level, last summer I noticed droping of level to midle then today it is on minimum level. I have topped up with G13 mixture (that remained from timing belt service) up to max level. So consumption of the cooling liquid is abt 300ml in this 25000km and 1,5 year (two summers as on the summer time I have noticed more droping in level).
Is this normal? Do I need to worry?
I will watch on level, but I will not top up until next min level.
The Car is A6 C6 model from 2011 year, engine 2.0 TDIe (100 kw) CAGB engine code, manual gearbox.
Nice to hear your experience...

Leaking header tank pressure cap, allowing some evaporation ?
Re: Coolant liquid - consumption
In some cases and cars with a lot of km done it is normal. You should change coolant once in two years. Look for coolant leaks. Does the engine gets too hot sometimes?

Re: Coolant liquid - consumption
I have looked all around engine and could not find any traces of coolant. The temperature of the car is normal, never pass 90 degrees. The car has now 204100km. I had A4 B6 1.9 tdi and coolant level never drop (at least not signficaly) between two timing belt services (4-5 years or 60000km).
Maybe high temperature in my place has influence? The temperature is between 25 and 35 Celsius each day.

Re: Coolant liquid - consumption
When I said the engine gets hot, I did not mean coolant temp. Check the gasket for coolant reservoir cover. I had someone with a passat with same problem and this was the solution.

Re: Coolant liquid - consumption
Is there any way how can I check reservoir cap without special equipment? I did not see any trace of coolant inside drip tray / channel around cap

Coolant liquid - consumption
If the gasket is worn, when coolant is at normal temperature hot air escapes near the gasket.
No tools needed.

Re: Coolant liquid - consumption
300ml in 25k is not anything to worry about, just monitor it and see how you go.
The advice ref changing toe coolant every 2 years only really applies to the old blue glycol stuff from days gone, new gear is good for at least 4 yrs and some are nearer 10yrs now.
Re: Coolant liquid - consumption
Thanks, I will minitor it. Next change of coolant is planed with next timing belt service i.e. every 5 years
