Photobucket no longer an option
Hi all,
I just noticed that Photobucket have updated their terms and conditions, and now prohibit third party image hosting on all but their premium subscription level. This means we can no longer upload images to photobucket and use IMG tags in posts on VWAF to embed them into our posts. All the images currently linked to from the forum now appear as a graphic that says "PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO ENABLE 3RD PARTY HOSTING". If you follow the url in the graphic, you find they demand a $400 per year (USD) subscription to show images on third party sites such as this one. I have many images linked to in my posts over the years, and I now need to find another site to host the images, then edit each and every IMG URL in the posts to replace the photobucket URL with the new replacement. Not fun! I'm sure I'm not the only VWAF member affected by this too. :(
MF.

Typical greed of big companies :(
You can upload, or should I say be able to upload images as attachments and store them on the site server...

Re: Photobucket no longer an option
I have just used the "share url" from Photobucket and posted the above, so that seems to still work for me :( UNLESS it changes....

Interesting! Your image shows, but all of mine have been blocked - see the link to one of my posts below:
Bash!!
Re: Photobucket no longer an option
Very odd, mine is just a basic free account as well... UNLESS they realise at a later date and it will change, I will keep an eye on it..
Re: Photobucket no longer an option
I have never used Photobucket due to their previous ties with Fox/News Corp. This is a very cynical cash grab with no warning at all. It will also drive direct traffic to their site, services and referrals etc . Pricing is a joke when you consider cloud storage pricing that doesn’t just handle images… and plenty of other free offerings. They will likely phase it in gradually and might even provide a small bandwidth allowance on free accounts. Not good for people who feel forced into upgrading and might even think their images are being held for ransom.
If you need similar options to Photobucket and don’t mind risking a yahoo server then give www.flickr.com a try. I doubt Verizon could handle any more bad press by switching to the same business model.
http://imgur.com/ was pretty much created for hotlinking (reddit mostly) and is free. Or if you don’t want to setup an account at all then try http://tinypic.com …ad based captcha (sometimes) but you don’t have to hand over your email address.

Photobucket says photo-f**k-it, starts off-site image shakedown - The Register

The photo-slinging internet elder now says that anyone who wants to use its service to display photos it hosts on other pages – such as signature banners in forum posts – will now need to open up their wallets and plop down $399.99 a year for a subscription plan.
The new policy will be particularly annoying to longtime users who have relied on Photobucket's 14-year-old service to host the images they use to place images on forums or in blog posts.
Cheaper plans, including the free account option, will no longer have an option to allow third-party hosting.
For anyone even considering paying this ludicrous subscription I have attached some pricing from 123 reg for a fully featured unlimited hosting package. 3 domains are included with ability to host 10 plus 100 subdomains. Host all your family and friends images (or anything else) and give them all email accounts for £100 for the first year then £144 per year after that. If 100GB and unlimited bandwidth is enough then it’s only £72 per year.
I might setup a little hosting site myself :biglaugh:

Re: Photobucket no longer an option
This is surely a major problem for theforum.
Over the years, I for one have usedPhotobucket to post well over 100 images in loads of threads, including severalHow To Guides.
I could work my way through them, startingwith the most popular threads, but my initial attempt to insert a photodirectly in the text is not very encouraging.
It produced a small image, not much biggerthan a thumbnail, like so:.

You can click on thethumbnail to get a full size image, but the text disappears. You can have the text, or a picture, but notboth.Any thread with multiple imageswould be a nightmare to read.
Can anyone advise how to insert an image whichappears full size?
