Very high miles service recommendations
Advice please. 2009A6 2.0TDIe 136 bhp. Facelift model. I have now done 258k miles. I servicereligiously (oil, filters, brakes etc) myself. It is running really well. Will begetting my 3rd cambelt and waterpump fitted soon (main dealer).
Question.. with such high mileage, is there anything else I shouldbe doing as a matter of course as a preventative maintenance measure to extend the lifeof the car?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Very high miles service recommendations
I would be looking at replacing the wheel bearings soon.
Have you been replacing the brake fluid regularly?
Re: Very high miles service recommendations
So gearbox oil, brake fluid and bearings. I will take heed and look into both in the new year.
not changes any of these so far.
Re: Very high miles service recommendations
if the bearings are not noisy then there is no need to do them.
The Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years.
If you have the manual (JWS) gearbox then you need 3 litres of transmission oil part No. G 052 911 A2'.
You just need undo the filler plug first (if it wont undo this way your not in trouble) then undo the drain plug.
Drain the oil and refit the plug and torque tighten the plug to 45 Nm.
Then fill the gearbox with the 3 litres of oil.
Then refit the filler plug.
Re: Very high miles service recommendations
Brake fluid should be done every couple of years, you could end up changing loads of things as a 'preventative' measure and rebuilding the whole car! Wheel bearings, CV joints, shock absorbers, clutch, suspension bushes. It sounds like you've already got a good idea of most service items and the condition of the brakes. You might want to consider some wax spray underneath to catch any corrosion before it runs away, I've recently used Dynax S50 from Opie Oils.
Personally I'd do the serviceable items, get the car up on a ramp, wheels off, give everything else a good inspection and adopt a 'condition based maintenance' approach to the bigger things like wheel bearings, unless you've got loads of money to spend.
Re: Very high miles service recommendations
Clean the contacts for both your starter motor and your alternator...with the battery disconnected natch!
No cost just a wire brush and some petroleum jelly over the top when all connected.
PAS fluid, coolant and brake fluid...oh and get your battery tested before any bad weather sets in.
Re: Very high miles service recommendations
Dan, Thank you for this it is very helpful. Looks like a job (gearbox oil) within my capabilities and made all the easier with the above. The car is very smooth, no bearing noise so far.
Rob , It is nearly all motorway miles so not a vast amount of stress on suspension etc. as you suggest see haw it goes. Interested in the corrosion tip. I had thought these shells were galvanised?? brings back memories of tertosealing my old mini! Don't have loads of money to spend, just want to do what is sensible to keep it going.

Mark, thanks. to do this do I have to disconnect the terminals or clean then while they are still connected? (assuming I can get a wire brush to them) I note the need to disconnect the battery first.
Re: Very high miles service recommendations
Yes the body is is pretty well covered but I sprayed the black steel work such as subframes, trailing arms, brake lines etc mask off your brake discs first though! I used a couple of cans, 30 quid.
