Audi A6 MY17 Tow Bar Retrofit
Hi,
I have retrofitted a genuine factory towbar and dedicated wiring kit to my MY17 A6 BE 2.0 TDI Quattro.
The parts were bought from my local Audi Main Dealer and I was reasonably confident because this is something that I have done to both my B6 Passat and my dads VW Golf.
However, the A6 has a lever in the boot to operate the swivel towbar mechanism and a status light on the bracket that shows whether the ball is locked into place.
The problem is I cant get the status light on the bracket to work at all.
I have tested all the lights with a trailer board and the trailer board is functioning properly and I have also tested the parking sensors and they are correctly disabled when I attach the trailer light board and I even get a picture of a trailer on the MMI display. So on the whole everything is working as it should.
I just cant get the status light on the handle in the boot to work though. I am sure there was an option in the coding somewhere to tell the car it had a lever mechanical swivel towbar when I looked in the past, but I cant for the life of me find it now?....
I have a feeling I'm missing some coding in the central electrics module but because the car is new there are no label files for the module yet.
Any thoughts?

I've added a couple of photos too just in case anyone was interested. I looked everywhere and couldn't find a post on a face lifted factory towbar install so decided to be the first! [emoji3]

Or.... maybe someone that has an original factory tow bar that swivels down with the lever in the boot could perform an auto scan with VCDS and send it to me so I can compare the coding?

I can't help you, but kudos for tackling the install!! :)
Re: Audi A6 MY17 Tow Bar Retrofit
This is interesting and I'll follow with interest as I'm just about to tackle this on mine. I've pulled together all the parts and will be starting the install in the next couple of weeks. I'm going for a wiring kit from Wibutec, then the rest genuine Audi parts.
How easy was removing the back bumper? Have you got the blind spot assist, as I understand the reader units are located somewhere behind the rear bumper, but not sure if they're connected to the bumper or the car.
Thanks for the pics - feel free to post more if you have them!

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the trailer module coding. I have tried your coding but it didn't make a difference.
Could you supply either a full auto scan or the sections for the central electrics and convenience modules please.
Also, could you tell me the year of your car. I suspect based on the trailer module it's a pre facelift model.
Thanks
Darren
