4 motion manual gearbox oil change? AVF engine 2004
Hi
I have a 2004 1.9TDI (avf) 4MOTION Estate with a manual 6 speed gearbox.
it has covered 140,000 miles and I was wondering would it be prudent to change the gearbox oil , if so how difficult, what oil is required , what quantity and any specialist tools required?
Any assistance appreciated,
cheers

It would be a good idea, the 01E box is a contemporary Audi quattro design and very easy to drain, sligly awkward to fill and level set. You need to drain the Torsen section and the main section and then refill through the side inlet. I don't expect your car has the gearbox oil pump and cooler so the level is set to 4-mm below the oil filler hole and you use a bent piece of rod to check this. The spec of oil should be to VAG G052911 specifications which is a 75w/90 to API GL-5 standards.

Thanks Crasher, that doesn’t sound too difficult, I appreciate the reply.
One quick question roughly how much oil would I need to refill the Torsen and main gearbox?
Many thanks again

The book of words says 2.5 litres which does not sound much but buy 3 litres and you should be fine. Always check the level cold after the car has been given a run, the level is 4mm below the hole according to ELSA.

I would thoroughly recommend Fuchs version of G052 911 as it's cheaper and a 75W-80 so better shifting when cold & tiny bit of economy gain.
