'Slipping' Auto gearbox 2.5TDi Allroad?
Wondering whether anyone can help me with the following? Had the car about a week and have noticed what I would consider a slightly strange gearbox trait.
A few seconds after a change up up from 1st to 2nd, the revs fall back for a second time, almost like it has changed up another gear but is still in fact in 2nd. Could this be the torque converter clutch slipping?
Also, sometimes when coasting to a stop or very low speeds, the change down from 2nd to 1st happens with a pretty heavy 'thunk'.

Is this in D or manual?

Auto (as per the title ;))

OK, lets try again.
Is this when the auto transmission selector is in the position D or is it whenit is in the possition to the left where you can (Semi) manually select the gears?:Blush2::biglaugh:

Ah, apologies, I'm with you. The first 'problem' is in either mode. First noticed it in 'D', but tested it in 'M' and the same happens.
The second issue of thunking going into 1st gear seems worse when in manual mode. Hope that makes sense.....

I would start with an oil and filter change. It might be just low on oil.
There is a special procedure for refilling but it's not that difficult.

Was thinking along those lines, but have read as many people say 'leave the oil well alone' as those who say change it....... Where can I find the procedure for re-filling it? (I have a 2 post lift so hopefully that will make the job a bit easier)
Re: 'Slipping' Auto gearbox 2.5TDi Allroad?
If you are just doing an oil swap. Clean the botttom of the gearbox so no dirt can get in. Drop the oil, remove the pan, swap the filter, clean the magnets in the bottom of the pan, refit pan. With the engine and gearbox cold, pump oil in until it runs out. Start the engine. Run the transmission forward whilst some one replenishes the oil. Run the tranmission in reverse and carry on re filling. Refit the plug and road test. I can't remember the temp the oil has to be below. Seem to think it was 60c. The box holds 9l of liquid gold I only got 7 and a bit back in.

Gearbox oil change could help.
What I found is tip always has this "slipping" in first two gears, then from third it fully engages.
You could try this:
While in Auto driving in third gear slow down to about 1500, then switch to tip mode, select 2nd gear again let it slow down to about 1500 or less (before it shifts down automatically) and then accelerate sharply.
Gear box should not slip, could also try this in third gear.
By the way if it was slipping should it not have stored a fault by now?

Toadus,
The symptoms you describe in your first post are exactly what I get, and I've never found it to be a problem.
Presumably, you are talking about acceleration on a light throttle?
If so, the tiptronic, having decided to change from first to second, has no reason to stay in that gear (because you are not asking for any hard acceleration), so changes onto third. Seems OK to me, until I read your comment about it "is still in fact in second". How do you know it's still in sccond?
You'll be pleased to know that I also get the clonk when coming to a stop in "manual" mode, but I've learned to live with it...
