17519 02 sensor regulation bank 1 system tioo lean P1111
Hi I hope someone can help me on this forum. I have a 2004 Polo 1.4 petrol BKY engine with this code, I have changed the MAP, cant find any air leaks. I have been told it could be the EGR valve, or the air fuel wide band 02 sensor, I am quite new to diagnostics, and I have a snap on verus, Can someone help me to diagnose the problem.
I thought a possible fuel pressure, but the code says it is Lean, and I have shed loads of black soot coming out of the exhaust, the emissions on the mot went off the scale.
Any help would be real appreciated

so the ecu thinks its lean, so dumps loads of fuel back in to compensate.its obviously not too lean. check the switching of the lambda. would also help to see the mot results from the emissions test, see what lambda reading is.

Hi Thanks for taking the time, What do you mean by switching. open and closed loop?

Re: 17519 02 sensor regulation bank 1 system tioo lean P1111
when its hot the lambda sensor will switch volts, rich lean rich lean etc, to stabilise the fuel. your snap on can do this if you find the right measuring block to go into, as you would with vcds. if it is switching them chances are the sensor is ok . but, if its stuck on lean then theres your problem. you will see the volts change between 1 and 5 or somewhere close to that, cant think without looking it up.. look at ross tech wiki to find the measuring block you need, then on the snap on go into expert mode, find measuring blocks, enter the code and see whats what.

Hi m Thats what I have been doing, banging my head against ed a brick wall, Now I find out it is a air/fuel sensor, 5 wire wide band, and they work totally different. they work on current flow and very difficult to diagnose a bad sensor
Re: 17519 02 sensor regulation bank 1 system tioo lean P1111
I have now checked the fuel pressure, thats ok
pin 51 at the ecu 5 volts
pin52 nothing
pin70 nothing
pin71 nothing
???????

Yes it is an NTK LZA07-V3.

Have you checked for an air leak upstream of the sensor?
The problem with the fault code 17519 (P1111) Oxygen sensor control; Bank 1: System too lean on a BKY is that VW don't list that code as being possible, it would be 16555 (P0171)- Fuel trim; Bank 1;System too lean so something isn't right. The VW procedure for P0171 is check fuel filter regulator and check it is the correct pressure rating of 3 Bar, test the injectors (very unlikely), test the pre cat lambda control and test the post cat lambda heating.

Hi I cant find anything that jumps out at me, I can do a smoke test on monday, I wanted to prove the 02 sensor was working,
What about the egr valve, how can I test that, I have read this can cause this problem
I have a snap on Verus
vag com
autel ds808
I should be able to diagnose what the problem is with one of these with some help.

If the Snap Off unit has the function, go into Basic Settings address 04 and then with the engine running, type in group 075. Without touching the clutch or brake pedals, blip the throttle up to max revs about 5 times and in display zone 4 the text should change from Test off to test on and then let it idle until system OK is displayed. To set up the EGR valve, turn on the ignition but do not start the engine, go into Basic setting 074 and display 4 should change to ADP OK.

Thats great, would it be better is i use vag com foe that?.
