I would assume it means the speed of the car is being controlled by your right foot, ie that cruise control is not engaged.
I think it has something to do with the efficiency. If the car knows there is a lower speed limit coming up. It is telling you to lift off the accelerator.
Interesting as I always notice it when I’m arriving at the motorway toll, where I’m decreasing from about 130km/h to 70km/h for the express lane (yes I know I’m exceeding speed limits in both cases).
I’m waiting to see the physio and bored so have looked in my manual (A6C8)
It says it’s efficiency assist and means slow down-predictive message.
It's actually quite a clever feature to improve your fuel economy. It works in combination with the navigation system to know when there are speed limit changes and roundabouts etc to advise you to lift off the accelerator so you can coast and arrive at the speed limit/junction without the need for excessive breaking. This contravenes advice from driving instructors about not coasting, instead breaking to show the car behind you are slowing down. It also uses gradient of the road ahead in its prediction. If you are travelling at the speed limit and the gradient will allow you to maintain the speed when coasting down a hill the symbol will appear. You can turn it off.
Recently started seeing this too and do not know what it is either. Assume part of a software upgrade when recently serviced.
