Worth changing original alloys to replicas?
Hi,
I have set of original 18" alloys
4g0601025bf
Attachment 34735
Was wondering to sell them and buy 19" RS6 replicas (just grey not black).
Attachment 34736
But Wonder if its worth it. I am sure original audi alloys are much better quality.
What do you think?
Was looking here for some inspiration but don't seem to find a thread with loads of images :)
Re: Worth changing original alloys to replicas?
Depends on how good your parking is , diamond cut finish is notorious .

I know, had something similar before.
I am more worried about easily cracking or bending.
Re: Worth changing original alloys to replicas?
Why not keep your 18s as winters, then if you hit a pothole and crack the non OEM through the rubber band, you’ll have something to put on.
I just sold my C7 with OEM 19’s, I nearly traded wheels with a friend who had 18’s as his ride felt better (both cars S-line) as he wanted bigger wheels.
I also rode in a C7 avant with 20’s and as you would expect the ride was another level stiffer/harsher.
Really depends on what you are looking for, but you will definitely notice the lack of tyre compliance on a 20 vs your 18s

I have two sets of wheels, winter and summer, both are 18".
I am looking for 19" purely cause of looks. Used to drive A4 with 19" it was ok (pretty good roads here)
Re: Worth changing original alloys to replicas?
I watched something on 5th gear a few years about replica wheels. They aren't as strong as OE wheels or quality after market. From what I seen they shatter on potholes that wouldn't deform the OE wheels. I would do plenty of research on the wheels you would like, to me its not worth putting my family in the ditch.

Probably not, but put it like this....here in Germany, we have to get winter wheels as per legal requirement. Most get non OEM wheels due to cost and due to legalities they all fulfill the requirements. If the wheels one is looking for are approved for use in Germany, you would be fine.

I've had aftermarket wheels on previous cars, mostly OZ Racing or MOMO, but not had any replica wheels. I think going for a quality aftermarket wheel would be fine, but I'm always sceptical about replica wheels
Re: Worth changing original alloys to replicas?
Ive seen expensive well branded wheels buckle or spokes snapping so it’s a bit pot luck most of time. These were on relatively low power cars.
Having something like tuv or British kite marking help with some peace of mind.
Re: Worth changing original alloys to replicas?
I have seen original wheels being snapped in accidents.....
BBS is one brand highly regarded (at least in Germany) and I am certainly very pleased with mine that I use for my winter wheels. Another one is Borbet. They make the original wheels for quite a few car manufacturers.
