New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
New changes to MOT are being rolled out in May. Reading on some news sites, it's going to be tough for diesels with DPF to pass and may require expensive DPF replacement. Is this true?
I have a Audi A6 2006 2.0 TDI with 155000 miles on the clock, but still going strong without any problems. I recently changed the Tyres, brake disks and pads, timing belt and water pump as well. I really don't want to sell my car. What is everyone doing?
Also with the new rules if there is any colour visible smoke from a diesel it will be failed with a dangerous fault, which means you need to get it repaired at the MOT centre or get it towed.

Has your 2006 A6 got a DPF fitted? if not then I don't see any major changes for you. If it has a DPF and the exhaust emits visible smoke or DPF appears to have been gutted then it will receive a 'major fault' and fail.

As far as I know I have a A6 C6 BRE engine. It should have a DPF. I have not removed it, but unsure if the previous owner has done something.
My MOT is not due until December. I haven't checked the smoke yet. Will do it today. My car has always passed MOT's since I had it from 2012.
Re: New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
What does the car usually blow and what is the manufacturers VIN plate smoke coefficient ?

I think you're worrying over nothing.
Re: New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
It will not have a DPF, it has a cat so it will be EU4, not EU4+DPF or even EU5.
Re: New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
What it will have is a silly low falsified manufacturers smoke coefficient on the VIN plate which if lower than the default 3.00 ( and it will be ! ) will be MOT smoke tested to that figure.
So far within my family / information gathered .
2003 Euro 3 , VW 1.9 PD ( AVF ) , default is a super slack 3.00, VIN is 0.60 !!!
58 plate VW 1.9 PD ( BXE ) , default is 1.50 , VIN 1.00 .
2009 Euro 4 , Ford 1.8 tdci , default is 1.50 , VIN is 1.75 .
2012 Euro 5 ( DPF ) , Hyundai 1.7 crdi , default is 1.50 , VIN is 0.51 .
So folks this is the next VAG emissions scandal where your VIN plate will try to screw you . Have fun .

Re: New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
I think the 61 plate Passat Blue Motion I have just taken off my lift is the epitome of what makes my blood boil about removing a DPF. This car is running around boasting on its **** about its "green" credentials and receiving tax breaks yet some **** hole has fitted a Darkside Developments DPF delete pipe so it's a worse polluter than a 1994 Golf 3 TDI, ******* criminals! The parts alone to put this right will be £2500 including a £400 surcharge as we have no old DPF to had back. Selling these parts should be a serious crime (jail time) as well as fitting them and using them, it is simply wrong.
Re: New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
It will probably only be a matter of time before some hapless buyer gets landed with a car like that, gets landed with a ££££ bill to get it through an MOT, and takes the seller or dealer to court.
Re: New MOT Rules - Is it time to sell my A6 TDI?
He has JUST bought it..... It came in for a full check over as the brakes felt bad, all the front discs are heavily corroded on their reverse.
