quantity adjuster code?? 17970 (n146) p1562
i have a major issue that just popped up with my car the other day..
i was driving home from work i called into tescos and when i got back and started the car it revved upto about 2000rpm on the inital start up and then the glow plug light on the dash kept flashing...i keep a code reader in my car so i pulled into a layby and plugged it in and got this code 17970 quantity adjuster (n146)upper limit reached:p1562 static - no indication on display.
i took a look in the engine bay to see if i could anything was out of place, took the top cover of the engine so i could check everywhere up top and everything seemed normal...i actually got the code cleared after i put the engine cover on and got my socket set put away...so i drove home steady enough constantly looking down at the dash to see if the glow plug light started flashing again,it didnt..
the next morning my wife took the car to work and when she came home she noticed revved up on start up and the light came on,she drove home and had to pull in of a slip road cause she said the car was revving up but the accelaration dropped..she stopped for about 10 mins and got the car going again and made her way home...
do you think the injection pump is done?or would there be another issue that would cause this?i keep the car in good working order...always change fuel filters evrytime i do the oil and air filters when i service it..any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks
malcolm
Re: quantity adjuster code?? 17970 (n146) p1562
i presume its a pre pumpa diesel engine?
if the quantity adjuster fault comes up the pump timing or cam timing could be out
you need to read the measuring blocks of the diesel pump to check
some of the early pumps use to break the wires to the pump

Yes its the bosch 110bph ahf block
Do you need vag co. To do those readings?mine is just a handheld code reader
Is there a way of working out if a wire has broke.what procedure would i use?
Thanks

you need a vcds or similar so you can read measuring blocks/live data
visual check the wiring plug at main fuel pump loom and make sure the wires are not broken at connector
if all ok then you need to check cam timing and then set up pump timing
with engine running and at 80 degrees then set the machine into basic setting mode
in the live data you need to read block 2 which is fuel temp and block 9 which is dynamic timing
depending on what pump it has it could be around 50-60 in block 9
i hope this is of help
