P2463 Excessive Soot Accumulation - What to do next
Hi all,
Over the last few months, I've seen the DPF light on my 2009 1.6 Tdi Bluemotion Passat come on and off. Sometimes a few seconds.
Today I started the car and it was in idle for a minute or so. I took the key out, got back in the car (forgot my wallet).
I started the car again and noticed:
- The Engine Management Light (glow plugs) was flashing
- The Emissions Control Light was on/solid.
- The DPF Sensor light was not on.
I tried to drive the car but it was clear it was in limp mode and not a good way to try and start a motorway journey. Incidentally, it was a week ago when I was on a 2-3 hour motorway drive.
I happened to have a cheapo OBD2 scanner and it read the error as P2463. I couldn't clear the error for some reason.
Now I don't know what to do.
Should I attempt to do a "Diesel Particle Filter Emergency Regeneration" or is that too risky or even worth doing?
Thank you.
EDIT: Also, is there anyway to come out of limp mode without a VAG machine? I can't find anyone local who would do it for me at an affordable price.

You need the ash mass and soot loading values checking in Measuring blocks, if the loading is over 40% the ECU will not allow even a service forced regeneration and the DPF will have to come of and be cleaned so that when it is put back on a service regeneration can be carried out to finish the job.
