Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
Hi
My 01 TDi Sport 130 has started (intermittently) showing the Oil Sensor Workshop! warning on start up. When it happens ,the orange oil light stays on for a few seconds and then goes away. The oil level is fine.
Are these sensors known to fail?
And am I right in thinking that an orange = oil level and red = oil pressure?
Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
I have just bought a 2001 2.0 s Passat, and like above intermittently I keep getting OIL SENSOR WORKSHOP I have been told by V.W that if I disconnect the positive wire from the battery for 10 mins then re-connect that will cure the problem. Does anybody know if this works !!

Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
Hi SJ30,
So ive been told, that when you disconnect the posi lead from the battery this is suppose to reset the system but if this is the case i don't know.
Maybe you need to have it reset at a vw garage or if you know anybody with a unit find out the code and have them reset it.
Sorry this is not much help but you could always try phoning your local v.w garage as well.
Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
hi mate thanks for the reply... had a man with vag lead reset error codes and it just keeps coming back after you run the car for a bit.
it is doing my head in...
steve,
Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
I know what you mean doing my head in as well, not only that I have a noise from the front wheel like a rumbling sound i have taken it to the garage and they said that bearings all o.k could be tyre noise will have to try and find out.
If you get a result from anyone please let me know mate.
Pete.
Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
Guys, You will need to replace the oil sensor, this fits on the bottom of the sump. You will need to drain the oil so its worth doing it at an oil change or when a service is due. I have to be honest my local dealer were less than helpful, first quoting me something like £150!!! but in total the job cost me around £80, oil sensor, new oil, filter and misc parts. £80 inc vat, sorted!! :beerchug:
Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
Do you know where i can buy an oil sensor from as i am finding it hard to locate one tried gsf and oil sensor does not come up! Is it called something else?
Please :1zhelp:
Thanks.
Re: Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning
hi mate put new oil presure switch and new sump sensor got the from dane in chester.. new pd oil and filter but still the same.
think maybe it is the ecu now.
when you remap the ecu will that sort out the problem if it is that..
kill two birds with one stone.
