I know what you mean and i know you're right!..
Yes mate that tool i can easely found ,but that seems to only work for the engines with 2 timing belts my engine uses only 1 long belt with the two cam pullies besides each other.

I forgot about that more conventional aspect of the AFH, not typical of the complex dual belt EA111 16v family. I will have to look the tool number up at work.
The reference will come handy mate.
Its possible for you to post a link of what kind of timing light i need ,so i know what you mean?
Regard's
Any standard HT clamp type timing light will do as the AHF still used leads, just typing timing light into Google brings up lots of results. the trouble is the timing mask on the front pulley is very difficult to see which is why we use an inductive system but you will have to manage with a basic timing light.
Hello today did the timing kit but had to do this with homemade tools.
The bottom pulley stays a theeth behind the case mark or may half a theeth but definitely no more than that looks like the belt wont allow for perfect aligment or maybe its just my ghetto tools, you get them perfect with the proper tools or theres always a tolerance?
The car didnt got any better and know looks like it pings at almost every rev band.
Cheers
You havn’t set the ignition timing have you? We did a belt on an older Polo this week and the distributor had to be moved a significant amount, if it is pinging then you WILL damage a piston or the head gasket, get the ignition timing set! :banghead:
I know mate if finances allowd me i would have everything done at once.
Yes i stop once i could had to get out of the motorway first ,engine was too hot...
As for my doubt on the bottom pulley stays a theeth behind the case mark but definitely no more than that is that normal or within tolerance?
I had the cams set spot on!
Do you have the money for a new engine?
Hello
I got myself a CraftTools advance timing light...
Looking at the flywheel for marks i can see a big 0 and then three strips the middle one being like a small finger is that my ignition timing mark?
I tryed to set the ignition timing with that "Finger" mark but the car still has the symptoms, i set the gun to 0º degrres and to 4cilinder engine, thats right...?
Off course used vcds to 001 group and go, bin bits all at 0
i can see that the 0 mark on the flywheel stays a bit behind of middle of the isnpection hole, as i said before(previous post) the crank belt pulley stays a thooth behind with the cams aligned is this a big issue? is possible to get them perfect?
Couldnt find what are the flywheel marks looking on the net, only for the pastic cover ones belt side...
Cheers
I need to check the instructions as I thought it was front pulley set. Off the top of my head the timing is 10 degrees before top dead centre with the rpm at approx 1400, the revs do increase don’t they? Does the light have a degree dial in function.
