Has anyone attempted the replacement of the heater matrix? I'm well aware it's a pain in the neck job taking anywhere between 5 -18 hours to complete, if so, have you any tips. Certainly can't afford a garage to do it.

If you don’t have air con it is easier but the dash has to come out, then you have to release the huge steel reinforcement beam (taking it right out is not necessary or simple) and then remove the three heater box 10mm nut large flat rubber backed washers in the engine bay (N 905 748 01), one is tight up behind the coolant bottle, one up on the bulkhead and one down behind the front pipe. It is vital that you make sure that as you undo these nuts that the thread is not turning, if it does hold it at the top with locking grips and slowly undo it with a spanner so you can check it does not turn. If this thread does turn it means it is coming out of the heater box behind the bulkhead and this tends to jam the box solid. After that and the fitting up near the intake are detected you can draw the box back and uncoil the matrix and extract it. The clips often break so there are two self tapper points provided. If you are a novice I recon it could take you two full days and that’s if everything goes smoothly, take LOTS of pictures for reassembly reference.
I haven't AC fortunately for this job! And yes I'm a relative novice ! But thanks for the advice regarding the spinning nuts!
