    Just heard back from Wearside Audi, turns out the oil level sensor was faulty and oil had ran into the electrical connection/plug giving irrational readings.

    From the symptoms would have said it was either the in-tank pump or its 12v supply intermittently failing, but you say the pump has been replaced.
