    Volkswagen has presented the new C Coupé GTE at Auto Shanghai 2015. This four-door concept car for the Chinese market – which is over five metres in length – combines exclusivity, perfection and passion. The C Coupé GTE is powered by an innovative plug-in hybrid drive system, whose drive sources combine to produce an impressive 500 Newton metres of system torque.

    The progressive C Coupé GTE illustrates a new design approach for Volkswagen’s top future saloons. Its contemporary form is impressive from all angles: while its long bonnet conveys a confident appearance, from the side, the four-door C Coupé GTE shows elegant lines, low-profile side windows and horizontal character line that is formed by two lines. From the rear, this structure comes together distinctively, emphasising the vehicle’s width.

    The C Coupé GTE has one of the world’s most advanced plug-in hybrid drive systems. It consists of a turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine (TSI) with four cylinders,an 8-speed automatic gearbox, an electric motor integrated in the gearbox module and a lithium-ion battery. The TSI engine produces 210 PS, while the electric motor has a power output of 124 PS. The hybrid drive develops a system power of 245 PS and an impressive system torque of 500 Nm. The battery integrated at the rear can be charged while driving or while parked.

    SEAT is continuing its product offensive with the new generation of its Alhambra. The intelligent and versatile MPV is up to 15 per cent more fuel efficient thanks to its new engines and even more dynamic thanks to increased power output. The Alhambra remains at the very forefront of its class with new comfort and assistance systems, as well as innovative connectivity and infotainment offerings. The New Alhambra will arrive at dealerships this summer, with UK pre-ordering starting at the end of May.

    “Alhambra has seen a year of record sales in 2014. Innovation, driving fun, utility and safety are the keywords for the new-generation Alhambra, making it the perfect partner for an active lifestyle,” says Jürgen Stackmann, Chairman of the Executive Committee SEAT, S.A. “Its compelling concept combines the very best functionality and state-of-the-art technology with an excellent standard of quality and workmanship. Plus, in true SEAT fashion, it offers incredible value for money.”

    The line-up of petrol and diesel engines has been completely redeveloped. Each powertrain fulfils the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard. The turbocharged direct-injection units are also up to 15 per cent more fuel efficient. Powered by the 2.0 TDI 150 PS for instance, the New Alhambra’s fuel consumption is an impressive 57.6 mpg, with 130 grams of CO2 per km.

    UK order books have opened for Volkswagen’s trio of hot Golf Estates – the Golf R and GTD Estates and the Golf Alltrack – ahead of first deliveries in August. The R and GTD Estates boast all the attributes of their popular hatchback counterparts, with like for like trims, but bootspace is increased from 380 litres to 605 litres – and up to 1,620 litres when the rear seats are folded flat. Power outputs range from 110 PS in Alltrack which is available with three engines, through 184 PS in the GTD to 300 PS in the range-topping R model. The Alltrack and the R Estate also gain 4MOTION four-wheel drive.

    Like the Golf R hatch, the Golf R Estate is powered by a 2.0-litre (1,984 cc) four-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine. Maximum power is 300 PS from 5,500 to 6,200 rpm while maximum torque of 380 Nm (280 lbs ft) is available from 1,800 up to 5,500 rpm. In this new car, standstill to 50 mph takes just 3.8 seconds, and to 62 mph 5.1 seconds; top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Style and spec-wise, the Golf R Estate follows all the cues of its hatchback sibling, though the Estate is only available with a six-speed DSG gearbox.

    The Golf GTD Estate is, quite simply, a booted version of Volkswagen’s iconic long-distance sports cruiser. The new estate model has at its heart a 2.0-litre (1,968 cc) common rail TDI engine which produces 184 PS from 3,500 to 4,000 rpm. Maximum torque is 280 Nm (380 lbs ft) from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm.     Bentley Motors is commemorating the historic ‘Blue Train’ race won by the Bentley Speed Six in 1930 with a Mulliner Limited Edition – the Mulsanne Speed ‘Blue Train’.

    Debuting this week at the Techno-Classica show in Essen, Germany, just four examples will be hand-crafted in Crewe for customers in continental Europe.

    85 years ago, Captain Woolf Barnato, Chairman of Bentley Motors and pioneering ‘Bentley Boy’, was staying in Cannes at the Carlton Hotel. He accepted a wager that not only could he beat the Calais-Mediterranée Express or ‘Blue Train’ back to Calais, but that he could be at his club in London before the train even reached the English Channel. He was, and the remarkable victory has been talked about ever since.

    The ‘Blue Train’ Limited Edition is produced by the skilled craftsmen and women of Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding division, Mulliner. Each features a number of delightful historical references and modern interpretations of design details from the original Speed Six.

    Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has presented the sixth-generation of its highly successful Transporter model. Updated key technical features offer better safety, improved comfort and convenience and greater driving dynamics in combination with improved fuel economy.

    Volkswagen’s T-series has been the number one light commercial vehicle in Germany for decades. Its predecessor sold some two million units around the world during its 11 years in production. Since the launch of Transporter in 1950, around 12 million vehicles have been produced.     Volkswagen’s award-winning online configurator, which allows customers to design their perfect car from the comfort of their own home or on the move via a tablet or smartphone, is designed to make choosing a new car as easy as possible. But even once the right car is configured there’s the question of optional extras – those finishing touches which make the perfect car perfect.

    To aid the selection of the right personalisation, Volkswagen has bundled frequently ‘bought together’ factory-fitted options into packs which are then offered at a competitive prices, saving customers at least 20 per cent on the price of buying the options individually.

    A new brochure, which is available at Volkswagen Retailers, details options packs for four of Volkswagen’s best-selling models: the up!, Polo, Golf and Tiguan. When configuring a car online, these packs are automatically suggested to ensure the customer gets the best value option. A range of packs are available, including:

    Milestone for ŠKODA: the highest authority in motorsport, the International Automobile Federation FIA, has given the new ŠKODA Fabia R 5 the green light. Following its successful homologation, the new rally car can now continue the Czech automobile manufacturer’s 114-year motorsport success story on the rally routes of this world. The Fabia R 5 is based on ŠKODA’s new production Fabia and is the successor to the Fabia Super 2000, which went down in history as the most successful rally car in the history of ŠKODA Motorsport.

    “We are delighted that the International Automobile Federation FIA has given us the green light. Now we can prove just how good our new rally car is in the race series,” said ŠKODA Board Member for Development Dr. Frank Welsch. “When working on the third-generation production Fabia, which enjoyed an extremely successful start, we incorporated some of the genes from our rally cars and developed the most emotive Fabia ever.     Compact central driving controller unit makes automated driving possible

    The central driver assistance controller (zFAS) is the core of future systems for automated driving currently under development by Audi AG. This mastermind unit uses cutting edge, high performance processors and will work its way into the Audi model range step by step in the foreseeable future. It is a key milestone on the road to new, automated driving functions and a demonstration of the pioneering role that Audi is assuming in the field of piloted driving. The technologies specialist Delphi has been awarded the contract for series production of the units.

    Audi developed this elemental control centre unit in collaboration with internationally leading technology partners. Under the direction of Audi AG, a team of specialists from TTTech, Mobileye, nVidia and Delphi jointly developed the various hardware and software components. Audi has chosen Delphi as the future system supplier for the zFAS electronics board.

    A wide range of sensor information comes together in the zFAS unit. The controller uses this to quickly compute a complete model of the vehicle surroundings and makes this information available to the various on-board assistance systems. It is thus the central interface for all piloted driving functions.
