    • New artificial intelligence app can detect the smallest changes in engine sound
    • Algorithm compares sound map against stored pattern and detects any changes
    • App developed in-house by ŠKODA software team
    • Rapid diagnosis of problems - 90 per cent success rate in trials
    • App could potentially reduce service time for customers

ŠKODA has completed successful trials of a new vehicle health diagnostic app that can listen for any problems through a smartphone app and give an instant diagnosis to technicians.

The remarkable artificial intelligence app – called the ŠKODA Sound Analyser – was designed and developed by ŠKODA’s in-house software developers. It allows technicians to quickly detect whether any service work is required. The system is so sensitive that it can recognise even the smallest irregularity in the engine sound and can suggest a range of service measures that might be needed.

The app program records noises made by the vehicle while it is running and compares them with stored sound patterns. In the event of any discrepancies, the app uses an algorithm to determine what they are and how they can be resolved.

To use, a technician only needs to record the engine sound via a smartphone microphone. An algorithm then compares the recording with stored sound patterns and, based on this, provides a description of the result. The software is already able to recognise ten patterns – with an accuracy of over 90 per cent – including for components such as the steering system, the air conditioning compressor, and ...

The aesthetic appeal of a coupé and the accommodating versatility of an SUV are combined again as the midsize Audi Q model undergoes the Sportback treatment

    • New SUV coupé set to join its standard Q5 SUV counterpart in first half of 2021
    • Range will include TDI, TFSI, plug-in hybrid TFSI e and SQ5 variants
    • Sport, S line, Vorsprung and Edition One specification options at UK launch
    • Digital cabin with touch-screen MMI, MMI Navigation and Audi Virtual Cockpit as standard
    • Rear lights with new digital OLED technology for Vorsprung versions

The reassuringly robust foundations of an SUV and the charismatic curves of a coupé - Audi has already successfully combined these elements to create striking new Sportback versions of its Q3 and e-tron models, and the mid-size Q5 is now following suit. The new Q5 Sportback will appeal to customers who appreciate the innately family-friendly utility and sophisticated technology of the standard Q5 but also admire the expressive and distinctive design of more purebred sports cars. It will line up alongside its perennially popular SUV counterpart with a choice of Sport, S line, Vorsprung and Edition One specification options in the first half of 2021.

“Form often carries as much weight as function for Audi customers, many of whom have been drawn to the brand by our longstanding commitment to combining design that innovates and inspires with fundamental everyday versatility and usability,” says Director of Audi UK
Andrew Doyle. “In new Sportback form the ever popular Q5 makes a far more expressive statement visually, but remains impressively fit for whatever life throws at it. Like the Q3 and e-tron Sportbacks it really is a best-of-both-worlds ...

    • The first car designed and developed specifically for CUPRA
    • Available in the UK with petrol and plug-in hybrid engines
    • Formentor is sixth vehicle to be built at Martorell, which has returned to pre-pandemic production levels
    • CUPRA Formentor available to order in the UK from 20th October 2020, when prices and specifications are announced

CUPRA has today started production of the new Formentor, the first vehicle designed and developed uniquely for the brand.

The CUPRA Formentor will be available to order in the UK from Tuesday 20th October, starting with the 2.0-litre 310PS petrol engine, and followed by other engines including the plug-in hybrid variant.

The CUPRA Formentor becomes the sixth model to be produced in Martorell (Barcelona), which has returned to its pre-pandemic production rate. Initial production of Formentor will begin with 160 units per day, however it will eventually represent more than 10 per cent of manufacturing volume at the plant once it is at full production rate.

In total, manufacturing the Formentor includes 3,000 workers on Line Two of the plant, across three shifts.

Wayne Griffiths, SEAT and CUPRA President, commented:
“The new Formentor is a big step for CUPRA. As its first uniquely developed car, it will make the brand grow, be more visible and more desirable. We aim to exceed our initial goal of doubling CUPRA’s sales volume with the launch of this car and break into new markets thanks to its wide range of engines. I am convinced that this model will change the future of the CUPRA brand.”

City-friendly compact hatchback combines punchy 204PS system output with Sport and S line specification and scope for up to 41 miles of electric-only travel

    • New plug-in hybrid version of A3 Sportback available to order in UK from this week
    • Sport and S line trim options, OTR pricing from Ł33,060
    • High-voltage battery with larger capacity, more powerful electric motor
    • WLTP-certified range of up to 41 miles in EV mode

A little 'e' goes a long way in the latest Audi A3 Sportback – it means that this new TFSI e version of the high-tech compact hatchback can travel effortlessly, economically and environmentally soundly under purely electric power for up to 41 miles, and then for hundreds more when its powerful and frugal TFSI engine takes up the task. The new Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e plug-in hybrid will be available to order in the UK later this week in Sport or S line specification with prices starting from Ł33,060 OTR, and will reach its first customers here towards the end of the year.

"Compact hatchbacks are of course particularly well suited to urban environments, as are electric vehicles, so combining the two formats in a state-of-the-art package displaying all the essential Audi hallmarks naturally creates an attractive proposition for daily commuting and city driving,“ says Director of Audi UK Andrew Doyle. "The beauty of the new A3 Sportback TFSI e is that it can also reach the city limits well before it reaches its own – it can travel far further afield impressively efficiently and then be refuelled and recharged quickly and conveniently. It’s a consummate all-rounder.“

With the A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e, Audi is continuing its electrification offensive, which has already brought plug-in hybrid versions of the A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q7 models to market. Now, the compact models are following suit. The A3 Sportback ...

The SEAT Ateca has been named Used Car of the Year at the 2021 What Car? Used Car Awards.

The coveted award is the latest of a number already in the SEAT Ateca’s trophy cabinet, which was also named Small SUV of the Year by What Car? shortly after its launch in 2016.

The Ateca has since earned critical acclaim from across the industry, while orders have recently opened for the New SEAT Ateca in September.

With 18 What Car? Used Car of the Year categories up for grab, a panel of experts considered the all-round ability, value and the availability of desirable versions to select the eventual winners, with the Ateca named the overall winner.

In particular, What Car? praised the Ateca for offering one of the most enjoyable driving experiences in its class, without compromising on ride comfort, alongside a unique combination of all-round desirability, practicality, and outstanding value for money.

As overall winner, the Ateca was also named Family SUV of the Year while its smaller sibling, the Arona, brought home the Best Used Small SUV award.

    • Seven-seat SUV receives new Real Driving Emissions stage 2 engines
    • Tarraco certified under tighter NOx limits laid down by Euro 6d-Final standards
    • RDE2 certification available on both petrol and diesel engines, FWD and 4Drive, manual and DSG
    • Tarraco available from Ł28,545 available to order at

The SEAT Tarraco is now available to order with both petrol and diesel engines that are certified under stringent new NOx emissions targets, Real Driving Emissions stage 2 (RDE2), ahead of mandatory compliance from January 2021.

The seven-seat SUV, Tarraco offers one of the widest range of RDE2-certified line-ups on the market today, with either a petrol or diesel engine, manual or automatic transmission, as well as front-wheel drive and 4Drive drivetrain system.

RDE2 legislation states that diesel cars must emit 80mg/km or less of NOx, while petrol cars must emit less than 60mg/km. Tarraco’s compliance is the latest evidence of the continuous work SEAT and CUPRA is doing to drive down emissions and improve efficiency, and also means every model in the range has at least one RDE2 engine available.

All TDI units introduce a new twin dosing SCR system that includes dual AdBlue injection to significantly reduce NOx emissions compared to previous generation diesel engines. The result is a range of diesel engines that meet the strict requirement of Euro 6d-Final emissions standards.

Private and fleet buyers of the diesel variant benefit from the removal of the four ...
