Odis, the new diagnostic technology

To stay up to date as London’s leading Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda and Bentley specialists we have to move with the times.
A new generation of VW Group diagnosis software has been released. This is called ODIS and to keep up to date we have had to start using this new software.
All new VW group vehicles (Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda and Bentley) will be compatible with this.
Simple things like interrogating fault memories switching off engine warning lights and resetting service indicators will need the new ODIS system to be used on all newer vehicles.
For any diagnosis job we will need to connect our ODIS diagnosis computer.
For resetting a service light we will need to connect our ODIS diagnosis computer.
To code a key or adapt a control unit we will need to connect our ODIS diagnosis computer.
In fact most jobs in the workshop will need the vehicle connected to the ODIS diagnosis computer.
So I think you get the point ODIS is with us and here to stay. (Or until VW launch something new)
Where this system differs from before (even though the whole system is different) when the car is connected to the computer, the computer needs to be connected to our computer network. So the diagnosis computer communicating with the factory every time it’s connected.

Below is just a brief overview of what we mostly use but are now in the transition to ODIS.


  • VAS-PC. This is our current and most used diagnosis machine



  • Vehicle Self Diagnosis. This is part of our current diagnosis machine. Here a technician can navigate to all the control units on a car.



  • Guided Fault Finding. Part of VAS-PC, this is a computer guided system. If a fault is stored, the program will launch a test plan for the technician to follow.



  • Guided Functions. This is a smaller version of Guided Fault Finding. Here, the plans are only things like, programming keys, or replacing ECMs, or coding modules.



  • ELSA. VW Group’s, repair manuals. It has a lot more information than DIY manuals.



  • ETKA.VW Group’s Parts catalog.



  • VAG-COM. An aftermarket diagnostic program for all VAG cars, VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley. We do have this as it is very handy for some functions and for taking with us when road testing and saving live data.



I hope you are not too confused already, but there is now something else to add to the list, ODIS
We have added ODIS to our list of diagnosis machines. Our Russell Automotive Centre Technician’s will be able to choose the one system they want to use. Of course for all newer vehicles it will be ODIS that will be selected. But we can still go back to the “old” stuff if we want to.
At the moment new vehicles like the new Audi A3 and the VW Golf Mk 7 Golf can only be communicated with, with the ODIS system that we have.
Technology is changing and so must we to keep up with it. That’s why we constantly invest in new technologies and tooling to remain as London’s Leading Independent Specialists.
