    Each generation of Porsche 911 Turbo has held up the claim of being a global benchmark for high-performance sports cars. It has maintained this reputation since 1975 by continually honing a combination of exhilarating performance and everyday usability, delivering relentless power coupled with conscientious efficiency. The latest generation of the two-plus-two seater is more than twice as powerful as the original 911 Turbo, which was powered by a three-litre, single-turbocharged, 260 PS flat-six engine. As the 911 Turbo has become faster and more comfortable over the past 45 years, it has always stayed true to its original defining character – a compelling mix of pioneering spirit and tradition.

    The new generation 911 Turbo Coupé and Cabriolet that are announced today sit beneath the flagship 911 Turbo S, unveiled earlier this year. With a 580 PS version of the characteristic flat-six, twin-turbo engines, the 911 Turbo offers 40 PS more than the prior generation model and consequently is able to dip under the three second 0-62 mph yardstick; specifically in 2.8 seconds (- 0.2 seconds quicker than before). This is aided by 750 Nm of low rev pull (+ 40 Nm), now without an overboost time limit, that makes quick sprints more spontaneous and effortless. In this way, the metrics for power output, acceleration and torque of the new 911 Turbo match those of the previous model 911 Turbo S.

    The monthly consumer motoring magazine reviewed the hybrid and electric car market, and the expert jurors assessed all vehicle aspects with a view to helping buyers understand more about this developing segment. And in key areas such as electric performance and everyday use, as well as the traditional sports car heartland of driving enjoyment, the two Porsche models stood out.

    In presenting the Panamera with its Performance Hybrid award, the dynamic qualities of the Porsche clearly resonated with the judges at What Car?, and commented: “With lots of driver appeal, sensible running costs and a beautiful interior, this Panamera is a prime example of how plug-in hybrids can be exciting and yet eminently liveable.“

    The Porsche plug-in hybrid always starts in purely electric ‘E-Power‘ mode and operates as a zero-emission vehicle for a range of up to 31 miles (WLTP) and a maximum speed of 87 mph. The 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine produces 330 PS and is combined with a 136 PS electric motor. The electric motor is supplied with power via a liquid-cooled lithium-ion 14.1 kWh battery.

    Assembly of the first new Bentley Blower in more than nine decades has officially started in a bespoke Bentley Mulliner workshop. ‘Car Zero’ is the engineering prototype for the Blower Continuation Series, a run of 12 meticulously engineered, hand-crafted, supercharged 4˝–litre Bentleys built to the unique design of Bentley’s own 1929 Team Car developed and raced by Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin. The 12 cars together form the world’s first continuation series for a pre-war car, and all have been pre-sold.

    The first parts in the workshop are some of the most important. First to arrive was the chassis for the car – the backbone of the entire project, to which almost everything will be attached. The fuel tank and radiator were next, as work was completed on the ash frame for the body.     Drivers of ŠKODA’s all-electric Citigoe iV and Superb iV plug-in hybrid can now use Amazon Alexa voice assistants to start or stop charging remotely and check on the remaining range of their cars, all from the comfort of their home.

    The new features are part of a raft of upgrades added to the ŠKODA Connect service, with iV owners now able to perform a range of actions to simplify the charging and management of their electric vehicle.

    One of the highlights is motorists can now check the charge level of their vehicles’ lithium-ion battery before embarking on a journey, and if needed, can give it an extra bit of charge using solely the power of their voice without having to physically intervene.

    For the function to work, customers simply need to ensure their charging cable is connected and use the command “Alexa, ask ŠKODA, I want to start charging my car.” Similarly, the “Alexa, ask ŠKODA…” command can be used to control all of the new features added to the Alexa skill.
