    • T1 Bulli from 1950 - the world’s oldest street-legal VW Bus
    • Since 2014 in VWCV’s Classic Vehicles collection

Exactly 70 years ago a first generation (T1) dove blue panel van with chassis number 20-1880 rolled off the production line in the Wolfsburg plant. It was delivered to Hildesheim to start a life of service, transporting goods from A to B. At the end of its working life, the VW Transporter vanished from sight for nearly 20 years in private collections and it was not until the early 1990s that an ardent Bulli fan brought it back into circulation. Following complete restoration the vehicle is now in
VWCV’s Classic Vehicles collection, where it has been since 2014. On her 70th birthday, Sofie, as she became known, tells the story of her life.

Slaving away for the Economic Miracle

On 8 March 1950 the Volkswagen plant begins full production of the Type 2, the ‘VW Transporter’ (Type 1 was the VW Beetle). This Type 2 (also known as the Bulli) is the universal genius of the Economic Miracle period and quickly becomes the darling of the commercial trades. As does the dove blue panel van with chassis number 20-1880, which rolls off the production line on 5 August 1950. For Hildesheim and its new owner it is at that time without doubt something very significant, as it is the first Bulli in this part of Lower Saxony. For 23 years it dashes around the roads and narrow lanes of Hildesheim before going into (early) retirement when the company sells the vehicle to a collector.

    The quiet times

From 1973 to1992 the Bulli spends its time in the collections of various VW enthusiasts. The last owner tries to the sell the vehicle ...

    • 0% APR allows customers to spread the cost on an interest-free basis
    • New offer covers maintenance work as well as accessories
    • Tow bars included in the offer for those seeking a staycation

Volkswagen UK offers another measure to make Volkswagen ownership even more affordable – the introduction of 0% APR finance payment option on aftersales work and accessories across the majority of the brand’s Retailer Network.

The offer allows customers to spread the cost of servicing, MOTs, tyres and general maintenance and repairs, as well as accessories, with 0% interest and no fees. It is available at participating Volkswagen Retailers across the UK.

Customers can choose between two options to help spread the cost: the first is to pay nothing on the day, and spread the cost over as many as three monthly instalments, while the second option requires a 25% initial payment up front, but allows up to six monthly instalments to complete payment. Both offers have minimum spend requirements of Ł60 and a maximum of Ł5,000.

This new initiative makes it easier than ever for customers to accessorise their vehicle and spread the cost over a number of months. With more people staying in the UK for their holidays rather than going abroad, roof bars or a tow bar boost practicality and keep boot space free for luggage. Accessories like the Compact III Bicycle Carrier (Ł577.00 RRP including fitting) can be installed on any model with a tow bar.

Volkswagen currently offers retrofit tow bars – fixed, detachable or swivelling depending on the model, with prices ...

    • Annual product update brings new equipment to range
    • MIB3 infotainment adds wireless Apple CarPlay to compatible models
    • RDE2-compliant power plants introduced

Volkswagen UK has almost completed implementing a raft of changes across its vehicle line-up, as the brand switches to its 2021 Model Year. Many models receive the new Volkswagen and R-Line logos, while all compatible models are updated to include the brand’s latest MIB3 infotainment system. In addition, RDE2-compliant engines are being introduced on all models throughout the coming months.

Across the Volkswagen range, the MIB3 infotainment system has been introduced to all compatible models, which brings the benefit of wireless Apple CarPlay – alongside streaming and internet – thanks to an integrated eSIM. And the engine line-up is being enhanced to meet RDE2 regulations with some units already compliant, and the majority switching over before the end of the year.

At the smallest end of the Volkswagen family, the up! will receive minor upgrades, since it was refreshed only recently when it became the first Volkswagen in the UK to display the new brand emblem. Cars fitted with climate control will benefit from the standard fitment of an allergen filter. The model will also be fitted with a more powerful, RDE2-compliant, three-cylinder, 1.0-litre 65 PS engine.

The Polo has been given an update to its branding, with its model designation now centrally placed on the tailgate, underneath the new Volkswagen roundel. The three-cylinder, 1.0-litre TSI 95 PS engine is now available on SEL trim, providing more customer choice for this particular variant, while the range now starts ...

Hand-built at Crewe, the Bentayga Speed combines the W12 powertrain and many of the models luxurious features as standard, including the Mulliner Driving Specification.

Building on a long tradition of Speed models that was born with the Continental GT in 2007, the new Bentayga Speed maintains the performance credentials proved by its predecessor, which claimed the production SUV record at the grueling Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2018.

The new Bentayga Speed builds on the completely refreshed design of the new Bentayga, adopting the same Bentley design DNA now prevalent across the entire model range. • With the Enyaq iV, ŠKODA is consistently developing its emotive design language and redefining the aesthetics of electric SUVs
    • Karl Neuhold, head of exterior design at ŠKODA, discusses the design highlights of the new SUV model
    • World premiere of the ŠKODA Enyaq iV takes place in Prague on 1 September

ŠKODA will be presenting its first all-electric SUV in Prague on 1 September 2020. The model marks the beginning of a new era for the Czech car manufacturer, which is why the brand is also taking another step forward in design with the Enyaq iV. Emotive lines and balanced, dynamic proportions are combined in the first ŠKODA based on the Volkswagen Group’s modular electrification toolkit (MEB), which offers a generous interior and a sustainable yet fun driving experience. Karl Neuhold, head of exterior design at ŠKODA, explains the unique design features of the Enyaq iV in a video interview.

The Enyaq iV is the first ŠKODA based on the modular electrification toolkit. How has ŠKODA’s design language evolved with this vehicle?

Karl Neuhold: With the Enyaq iV, we are again building on the emotive ŠKODA design language that characterises the Scala, the Kamiq and the new, fourth-generation Octavia. The Enyaq iV also features sculptural lines, clear surfaces and crystalline elements that draw

Each generation of Porsche 911 Turbo has held up the claim of being a global benchmark for high-performance sports cars. It has maintained this reputation since 1975 by continually honing a combination of exhilarating performance and everyday usability, delivering relentless power coupled with conscientious efficiency. The latest generation of the two-plus-two seater is more than twice as powerful as the original 911 Turbo, which was powered by a three-litre, single-turbocharged, 260 PS flat-six engine. As the 911 Turbo has become faster and more comfortable over the past 45 years, it has always stayed true to its original defining character – a compelling mix of pioneering spirit and tradition.

The new generation 911 Turbo Coupé and Cabriolet that are announced today sit beneath the flagship 911 Turbo S, unveiled earlier this year. With a 580 PS version of the characteristic flat-six, twin-turbo engines, the 911 Turbo offers 40 PS more than the prior generation model and consequently is able to dip under the three second 0-62 mph yardstick; specifically in 2.8 seconds (- 0.2 seconds quicker than before). This is aided by 750 Nm of low rev pull (+ 40 Nm), now without an overboost time limit, that makes quick sprints more spontaneous and effortless. In this way, the metrics for power output, acceleration and torque of the new 911 Turbo match those of the previous model 911 Turbo S.

The 3,745 cc six-cylinder flat ‘boxer’ engine in the 911 Turbo now features symmetrical VTG turbochargers with electrically controlled wastegate bypass valves. The VTG system adjusts the intake boost according to engine speed ...

An unrivalled combination of sporting driving dynamics and powerful and efficient powertrains has seen the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Porsche Taycan 4S rewarded in the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2020 announced today.

The monthly consumer motoring magazine reviewed the hybrid and electric car market, and the expert jurors assessed all vehicle aspects with a view to helping buyers understand more about this developing segment. And in key areas such as electric performance and everyday use, as well as the traditional sports car heartland of driving enjoyment, the two Porsche models stood out.

In presenting the Panamera with its Performance Hybrid award, the dynamic qualities of the Porsche clearly resonated with the judges at What Car?, and commented: “With lots of driver appeal, sensible running costs and a beautiful interior, this Panamera is a prime example of how plug-in hybrids can be exciting and yet eminently liveable.“

The Porsche plug-in hybrid always starts in purely electric ‘E-Power‘ mode and operates as a zero-emission vehicle for a range of up to 31 miles (WLTP) and a maximum speed of 87 mph. The 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine produces 330 PS and is combined with a 136 PS electric motor. The electric motor is supplied with power via a liquid-cooled lithium-ion 14.1 kWh battery.

A total system power of 462 PS drives all four wheels, and the standard three-chamber air suspension balances comfort and agility. The Panamera E-Hybrid can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and where permitted can achieve a top speed ...
