The familiarly rakish silhouette of the A7 Sportback is ready to reappear in the UK Audi model portfolio, and it is virtually the only feature of the second generation five-door coupé that is carried over. Priced from Ł54,940 OTR, and due with its first UK customers in April, the all-new A7 Sportback has been carefully but comprehensively updated visually with reference to the latest Audi design language, and brings on board the most contemporary and transformational technology to upgrade every facet of the driving experience.

With its large surfaces, sharp edges and taut, athletic lines, the latest A7 Sportback draws inspiration from the Audi prologue concept study that spearheaded the introduction of the new Audi design language. In common with the A8 which was the first to take the new direction into series production, one of its key defining features is a flat light strip which creates a continuous light pattern across the rear – a distinction that will mark out all models in the upper echelons of the Audi range in future. • Tiguan’s first decade characterised by continuous sales increase
    • Volkswagen’s compact SUV closes in on 150,000 UK sales
    • Model sits at heart of Volkswagen’s broad SUV line-up

It was a decade ago today that Volkswagen’s first compact SUV went on sale in the United Kingdom. The Tiguan was a step into a new market sector for the German manufacturer, yet through a combination of urban elegance and rugged off-road ability the Tiguan has become a key member of the brand’s product portfolio here.

On sale across Volkswagen’s UK Retailer network from January 31 2008, the first generation Tiguan featured exterior styling that echoed that of its bigger brother, the Touareg. Distinctive elements, such as a clamshell bonnet, gave the Tiguan MkI its own character. The option of an off-road pack meant the model could be tailored to customer needs while the compact exterior dimensions masked generous interior space.

The Tiguan was initially offered with a choice of a 150 PS TSI petrol engine or a 140 PS TDI diesel engine. Four trims comprised the range and the car had an infotainment system that included a touchscreen, satellite navigation and MP3 playback. Tiguan SE models featured the luxury of a six-CD autochanger.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the original Tiguan’s performance here is that the number of cars sold in the UK climbed ever higher with every passing year. In the model’s final full year on sale, 2015, a total of 21,889 Tiguan MkIs were sold in the UK. That’s nearly 5,000 more than in 2014 and more than 8,000 up on 2013. In total, 102,974 Tiguan MkIs ...

    • New hybrid study by ŠKODA advances the brand’s SUV design language
    • Generous proportions and three-dimensional surfaces characterise the VISION X exterior
    • Large colour display and impressive lighting effects highlight the interior design
    • Urban crossover will be the third series-production model to conquer a new segment
    • Expanding the model range in the fast-growing SUV segment is the cornerstone of ŠKODA’s Strategy 2025

The Czech car manufacturer is presenting an outlook on the further development of their model range with the hybrid study ŠKODA VISION X. The concept of the urban crossover transfers the characteristic features of ŠKODA’s successful SUV models to another vehicle segment. The ŠKODA VISION X is celebrating its world premiere at the International Motor Show 2018 in Geneva.

With its compact proportions, the ŠKODA VISION X is presented as the ideal companion for an active, urban lifestyle. Precise lines and clear surface contours characterise the exterior and highlight the dynamic character of the FlexGreen-painted hybrid study. A roof in contrasting Anthracite sets sporty accents. In addition, distinctive bumpers, dominant side sills, a large panoramic glass roof and 20-inch alloy wheels create a powerful look. The sharp design was inspired by traditional Czech glasswork.

The interior of the ŠKODA VISION X defines a fundamentally new design language. The wide, ergonomically contoured dashboard with freestanding colour display dominates the visual impression in ...

    • SEAT Leon CUPRA 300 range now benefits from savings of up to Ł1,945
    • DSG-auto models now priced in line with manual versions
    • Leon CUPRA 300s built from now also receive ‘Digital Cockpit’ – the first SEATs to do so
    • New prices apply to all UK Leon CUPRA 300 orders with immediate effect

The SEAT Leon CUPRA has always stuck closely to a top performance and value per pound ethos. Now, with immediate effect, it is taking the fight to the hot hatch elite with the latest 300PS versions becoming even more tempting through savings of up to Ł1,945.

The revised pricing applies to all three Leon CUPRA 300 bodystyles, SC (Sports Coupé), five-door and ST (Sports Tourer). The Leon SC CUPRA 300 DSG-auto benefits from the largest saving, with Ł1,945 taken off of its previous price. The best-selling five-door and ST are just a smidgen behind losing Ł1,905 respectively.

At the same time, and making a Leon CUPRA 300 purchase even sweeter, SEAT has chosen to offer customers the chance to opt for its six-speed DSG-auto versions for no price premium over the six-speed manuals, which is typically a Ł1,350 additional cost. The three manual versions each see price reductions of Ł555 too.

In spite of the price realignments, the Leon CUPRA 300 range still retains its impressive equipment levels. Among its core ítems are 19-inch CUPRA alloy wheels, SEAT Drive Profile, Dynamic Chassis Control, auto lights and wipers, Full Link (integrated Smartphone connectivity: MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) and dual zone climate control.

The new Tiguan Allspace is now available to order across Volkswagen’s UK Retailer network. Based on the successful Tiguan sports utility vehicle, the Tiguan Allspace has a longer wheelbase and a greater overall length than its sibling.

A third row of fold-flat occasional seats means the Tiguan Allspace can carry up to seven people and still boast a luggage capacity of 230 litres. Or, with five people in the car, the luggage capacity is 700 litres, and increase of 85 litres over the ‘regular’ Tiguan (615 litres).

    • Extra equipment includes LED headlights and climate control
    • App-Connect now standard on all Passats
    • Plus, new petrol engine options open for order on Golf

Volkswagen is enhancing the specification of the award-winning Passat. Available to order in its updated guise from today, Friday 5 January, each of the five Passat trim levels gain new standard features inside and out.

LED headlights are now standard on the SE Business, GT and Alltrack trims and the Passat R-Line now features Premium LED headlights. LED headlights replace the previous halogen units, and include 12 separate LED daytime running lights that also perform the indicator function.

On the Passat R-Line, the Premium LED headlights feature dual ‘U-shaped’ LED daytime running lights and dynamic curve lighting. Here, the lights swivel as the steering wheel is turned giving greater visibility of approaching corners and an early warning of potential hazards.

Every new Passat now comes with Volkswagen’s App-Connect system as standard. App-Connect enables the driver or a passenger to link their smartphone to the car via a USB cable. The screen of the phone is then ‘mirrored’ onto the Passat’s infotainment touchscreen.

This enables the user to play music and playlists on the move. The car will also read out text messages and allow the user to dictate a reply. A wide variety of other apps are available, too, including Spotify and Skype. App-Connect works with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink™ which means it is compatible with the vast majority of mobile smartphones.

From today the upgraded Passat SE Business, R-Line and Alltrack models will feature heated front seats as standard. Already on the Passat GT’s extensive equipment list, this ...

How different can three petrol Volkswagen Golfs really be? When they range from a 310PS Golf R with DSG, to a 150PS 6-speed manual using VWs new 1.5 TSI EVO engine the answer is, quite a lot.

We spent the day with Volkswagen testing some of their newest cars, including the Arteon, but they were keen to remind us just how versatile the current Golf line-up really is.

    Golf Estate R 2.0 TSI 310PS DSG
First up, for what was probably the wettest day of the year, we took out the fastest, fast Golf to see how it handled one of our favourite roads in Central Scotland, the B7086 Strathaven to Muirkirk Road.

The first thing you notice with the latest iteration of the Golf R is just how loud it is on start-up. Despite this car having the upgraded Vienna leather upholstery, which does elevate the interior, you could still mistake it for a lesser model – but not after you’ve pressed the starter button.

It only takes the first blip of the throttle to confirm that you’re in something pretty special. Pull out onto a quiet bit of road with the car in Race Mode (we kept it in that for the full drive), press the throttle and feel it grip and go.

For those of you who don’t know the B7086, it starts off quite wide and flowing but quickly changes to slower, tight second gear corners with lots of elevation changes and negative camber bends. As such, power and grip are key here and with actual rivers flowing ...
