    • ŠKODA drives SUV campaign forward with the ŠKODA KAROQ

The ŠKODA KAROQ is a completely new compact SUV from the long-standing Czech brand.
The emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements characterises ŠKODA’s new SUV design language. As a true ŠKODA, the ŠKODA KAROQ offers exceptional space, new driver-assistance systems, full‑LED headlights and – for the first time in a ŠKODA – a digital instrument panel. Five engine variants are available from 85 kW (115 PS) to 140 kW (190 PS), of which four are new. Typical of ŠKODA are smart ideas for the brand’s new compact SUV which include features such as the rear-seat VarioFlex system and the virtual pedal for the hands-free opening of the boot. Longer items can be comfortably transported in the interior of the compact SUV – thanks to the folding front passenger seat.

It is clear from the exterior shape, modified lines and larger dimensions that this is a completely new vehicle. The ŠKODA KAROQ is a sports utility vehicle with character: The emotive and dynamic design with numerous crystalline elements characterises ŠKODA’s new SUV design language.

The compact SUV measures 4,382 mm in length, is 1,841 mm wide, and 1,605 mm high. The increase in size benefits the passengers. The kneeroom is 69 mm. The long wheelbase of 2,638 mm (all-wheel version: 2,630 mm) gives the ŠKODA KAROQ a comfortable stance on the road and provides an indication of the generously proportioned interior.

The ŠKODA brand stands for an exceptional package. This also applies to the new KAROQ. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 521 l with the rear seats in place. With the rear seats folded down, the volume increases to 1,630 l. The VarioFlex system consists of three separate seats, which can be individually adjusted and also be completely removed – and the KAROQ is then converted into a van-like SUV with a maximum load capacity of 1,810 litres.

    Segment leader: connectivity solutions

The ŠKODA KAROQ is at the top of its segment with innovative connectivity solutions. The infotainment building blocks come from the second generation of the Group’s Modular Infotainment Matrix, offering state-of-the-art functions, interfaces and equipped with capacitive touch displays. The top systems Columbus and Amundsen have a Wi-Fi hotspot. An optional LTE module is available for the Columbus system. The Internet connection is based on today’s fastest mobile radio ...

Audi will embrace the future with two advanced new Q SUVs and three e-tron battery electric vehicles while also replacing five ‘core’ models

    • New model generations in five core series, expansion of SUV family, extensive electrification
    • Technology for driverless city cars ready for an initial small series by 2021

Audi is facing up to the challenges of the present day but also confidently embracing the future with ambitious plans. Following a year that was impacted by the diesel crisis, the company intends to continue pushing forward with its strategic transformation, the details of which have just been outlined to shareholders by the Board of Management at its Annual General Meeting in Neckarsulm, Germany.

“We are rejuvenating our model portfolio enormously and will renew five existing core model series by mid-2018,” stated Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “In addition, we will expand our successful Q family by 2019 with two new concepts – the Audi Q8 and the Audi Q4 – and we will launch our battery-electric e-tron models.” Audi plans to launch three new electric models by 2020, after which the brand will gradually electrify models in each of its core series.

The focus this year is on top-end models with the new generations of the Audi A8 and Audi A7. The premium manufacturer will unveil the A8 at the first Audi Summit to be held in Barcelona on July 11. With this new event concept, the Ingolstadt-based company will create an exclusive presentation format all around the Four Rings. “There, we will show the world everything ...

The most powerful Audi engine ever destined for series production is about to raise the tempo in what is already one of the most intoxicating driving machines offered by the brand – the open-air, high intensity R8 Spyder is to adopt the gloriously vocal 610PS V10 from the R8 V10 plus Coupé. The new R8 Spyder V10 plus is capable of 0-62mph in a mere 3.3 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph, spurred on by its significant 70PS power advantage, and by a significant 25kg weight reduction, versus the ‘standard’ V10 Spyder.

Reinvention is something you usually do when you’re fed up with your old life or have made some catastrophic mistake that means you need to change everything. For Skoda, there have been no such issues; in fact, they are making more cars and larger profits than ever.

What has changed is the public’s perception of car ownership. With cars now mostly bought via monthly payments, just like your electricity bill, many people just see them as a way to get from A to B. Nobody chooses to pay more than the minimum for their electricity so car manufacturers had to make sure this never happens to them. Thankfully, Skoda has come up with a solution

To prepare Skoda for the coming decades they are about to release the second of their SUVs, the Karoq, and they chose that coolest of countries, Sweden, to show it off to the world’s motoring press.

With many of the journalists present wondering why Skoda had chosen Sweden, I thought it was a smart move rather than going to a country hotel in South East England or a spa resort in the Czech Republic. While many countries have swathes of luxury hotels, Sweden is always seen as being hip with a great outdoor culture – that’s what Skoda wants to associate itself with.

Travelling by boat through the Stockholm archipelago, you can’t help but be impressed with the surroundings. As well as the parks full of people enjoying the sunshine, Sweden has the highest boat ownership per capita ...

Now that SEAT have established the Ateca as the sportiest and most car like compact SUV from the VW Group, they are ready to do the same with a seven seat version.

This being the internet, SEAT have wisely put in place some restrictions so as not to have a Boaty McBoatface incident on their hands: the name must be taken from Spanish geography

If you are a SEAT fan, or just love Spain, then why not make your mark on automotive history and choose the name for what's going to be a top seller across Europe and beyond.

Here's the rules and how to get involved:

The initiative, which kicks off today, consists of four stages:

    1. Proposals for names. Beginning today and running until 22 June, anyone can propose their favourite name for SEAT’s new model. In addition to the Spanish geography criteria, SEAT has included, among others, that the name matches the company’s brand values and product characteristics and that it is easy to pronounce in different languages. Each of the proposals received will be taken into consideration during this stage, regardless of the number of participants that submit each proposal.
    2. Shortlisting of entries. In view of the established set of criteria, experts at SEAT and in naming will be involved in the pre-selection stage, as well as customers from different countries in the focus groups organised by the brand, and tests will be carried out in the markets to shortlist at least

Have you seen 17 plate Skoda Octavia recently and thought it was looking a bit dated? I though the car looked quite fresh but the good folks over at Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic have created a new look for their best selling model and added a few extra bits of technology.

This change makes the Octavia fit the family look of the most recent Skoda Superb, launched in 2015, and the ‘soon to be seen everywhere’ Skoda Kodiaq. I think the lines flowed slightly better in the old shape, but there’s no doubting that the new look is more modern.

The main changes at the front end include updated split headlight design, with LED on most models, revised bumper and slicker foglight design.

With the might of the VW group behind them, Skoda have also updated the infotainment system with a now optional 9.2″ Columbus touchscreen satnav system. As well as including DAB, Apple CarPlay, Andoid Auto, and Wifi, it now has a capactive touchscreen meaning you don’t need to stab at the screen, it works using electrical charge just like your iPhone.

We had the chance to try out three combinations of the new Octavia: 2.0 TDI 150 DSG L&K Estate, 2.0 TDI 150 DSG SE L Hatch and 1.4 TSI 150 SE Hatch, all of which had a wide variety of options on them.

Starting at Ł19,530, the 1.4 petrol will be massively popular with families. Ours had an updated ‘Amundsen’ sat nav with WiFi but as standard it still comes with everything ...

    • UK line-up will feature four engines, including new 2.0 TSI 190. Others are: 1.4 Eco TSI 150 turbo petrol, plus, 2.0 TDI 150 and 2.0 TDI 190 turbo diesels
    • 4Drive all-wheel drive featured as standard on all 2.0 litre engines
    • FR visually differentiated from other Atecas through sport look combining high gloss black front grille, 18-inch ‘Performance’ alloy wheels, body-colour wheel arch surrounds, unique FR front and rear bumpers, dark-tinted rear windows, side skirts, rear spoiler and aluminium roof rails and door mouldings
    • Impressive specification also includes SEAT Drive Profile, plus, full complement of exterior and cabin LED lighting, including multi-colour interior illumination
    • FR sporting quality reflected in sports front seats with Alcantara upholstery and progressive steering
    • Available to order from 3 July 2017, ahead of UK showroom arrival in August. Priced from Ł24,960 on-the-road (FR 1.4 Eco TSI 150 PS)

Unveiled this week at the Automobile Barcelona show, SEAT UK is now whetting British customers’ appetites with details of specifications and pricing for the sporty FR addition to its Ateca SUV range.

SEAT’s first SUV has already proved a huge hit, both with UK media and in the marketplace, its sales performance since launch last September helping the brand soar to record heights. The new FR will extend its appeal further with an injection of the sporty style and performance that are at the heart of the Barcelona-based brand.

There is a choice of four powerful and efficient engines – two petrol and two diesel, all of them turbocharged. ...

    • Hottest GTI: updated Golf GTI Performance opens for order
    • Frugality plus power: new 1.5-litre EVO engine debuts
    • New engine joins Golf hatch and Golf Estate rangesVolkswagen’s updated Golf features one of the most comprehensive engine line-ups of any model in the UK. Now the potent 245 PS Golf GTI Performance and keenly anticipated new 150 PS 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine are available to order and, together, they bring high performance and further frugality to the burgeoning Golf range.

Two versions of the 1.5-litre EVO engine are joining the updated Golf line-up. With outputs of 150 PS and 130 PS, both are turbocharged four-cylinder units and are available with six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearboxes. The 150 PS unit is available now, and the 130 PS derivative will join later in the summer.

Active Cylinder Management (ACM) is an integral part of these new EVO units’ efficiency. ACM technology shuts down cylinders when the driver lifts their foot off the throttle. In the 150 PS unit two of the four cylinders are shut down while in the 130 PS BlueMotion version all four cylinders are paused when the car is coasting.

Looking at the detail of the 150 PS unit, internal friction is reduced via a fully variable map-controlled oil pump and a polymer-coated crankshaft bearing. A higher injection pressure of 350 bar compares to the 200 bar of the 1.4-litre unit it replaces. Temperature-sensitive components such as the throttle valve are located downstream of the intercooler.

The new engines also have an innovative thermal management system with a new map cooling module. APS-coated cylinder liners, fin cooling between the cylinders and a cross-flow
