    • Over 10,000 customers quizzed in nationwide survey

ŠKODA UK is celebrating this week after the brand topped the automotive table in the latest UK Customer Satisfaction Index Summary (UKCSI) produced by the Institute of Customer Service. ŠKODA was in the top 10 per cent of all organisations across all industry sectors.

ŠKODA achieved an index of 82.7 to scoop the top spot in the automotive sector, putting the brand 4.1 points ahead of the average for the automotive industry (78.6).

Overall this places ŠKODA 18th of all the 197 organisations which featured in the UKCSI’s findings, among other major consumer brands such as John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Amazon.

David Allen, Head of Customer Quality and Network Development for ŠKODA UK, commented: “Customer service is at the heart of what we do. We appreciate feedback from organisations such as the Institute of Customer Service to validate the steps that we take to ensure that each and every ŠKODA customer has a positive experience.

“This month’s findings are a testament to the hard work of each of the brand’s 134 retailers. I’d like to extend my thanks to them in helping us to bring our second-to-none service and award-winning range to customers across the UK.”

    • First ever Golf GTD Estate to be unveiled at Geneva Motor Show in March
    • Like the iconic diesel hatch, GTD Estate features 2.0-litre 184 PS TDI engine
    • Combines sporting performance with combined fuel economy of over 64 mpg*
    • Sporty design cues inside and out match those on GTD hatchback

Since 1982 Volkswagen's GTD logo has stood for Gran Turismo Diesel, with its promise of sporty yet economical motoring. Now for the first time, the GTD initials grace the Golf Estate, which like the Golf GTD, boasts the 184 PS engine. The new model is set to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The Golf GTD Estate is well placed to establish itself as an iconic long-distance cruiser. The 184 PS TDI engine takes the Golf GTD Estate to 62 mph in just 7.9 seconds with the 2.0-litre unit delivering a maximum torque of 380 Nm – and yet this sporty Estate car boasts an impressive combined fuel consumption figure of 64.2 mpg*.

The car’s sporty character is reflected in its exterior design: along with special GTD bumpers and the honeycomb radiator grille, the Golf GTD Estate also features smoked rear lights and flared sills. The look is completed by 17-inch Curitiba alloys, black roof rails and dual chrome tailpipes. Also standard on-board the Golf GTD Estate are bi-xenon headlights, sports suspension with ride height lowered by 15 mm, and progressive steering, which gives a sharper response during high-performance driving as well as ensuring greater comfort in ordinary conditions.

Volkswagen has unveiled a new five-seater midsize SUV concept car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Called the Cross Coupé GTE, it is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive, and previews Volkswagen’s new US design language, combining German engineering with the American way of life.

The new car’s debut at the show, which runs from 12-25 January, comes ahead of the start of production at the end of 2016 of a new seven-seater midsize SUV at Volkswagen of America’s Chattanooga factory in Tennessee.

The Cross Coupé GTE is the third concept car presented by Volkswagen in the run-up to the introduction of the production version. Together, all three concept cars – the CrossBlue presented in Detroit in January 2013, the CrossBlue Coupé most recently shown in Los Angeles in November 2013 and the Cross Coupé GTE that is now being presented at the NAIAS – represent just a part of the wide spectrum of SUV variants that can be realised through the modular transverse matrix (MQB), and were developed with the aim of offering an SUV in North America in the near future that is consistently tailored to the US market.

Although the design of all three SUVs was based on the Volkswagen design DNA and they have common stylistic features, the latest model breaks in many ways with previous concepts, and thus increases the momentum towards series production. The Cross Coupé GTE measures 4,847 mm long, 1,736 mm high and 2,030 mm wide. Commenting on its appearance, Klaus Bischoff, chief designer at Volkswagen said: ‘The concept car has a commanding

    • New plug-in hybrid Golf GTE combines benefits of e-mobility with GTI dynamics
    • GTE available to order now with first deliveries expected in March
    • Golf becomes the only car to be available with five powertrain types (four in UK)
    • Combines petrol and electric motor to produce 204 PS and range of up to 580 miles

The Volkswagen Golf GTE is available to order from today, costing Ł28,035* RRP. And unlike Volkswagen’s other electric vehicles (the e-up! and e-Golf) which are sold through a network of 25 e-Retailers, the GTE will be available through all of the company’s franchised sales outlets.

The name of Golf GTE reflects its standing in the line-up alongside the petrol-powered GTI and diesel GTD, while its pricing also reinforces this position. The new car is driven by two engines: a 1.4-litre 150 PS TSI direct-injection petrol engine and a 102 PS electric motor. Together, they produce a maximum power of 204 PS and a theoretical range of 580 miles, while maximum torque is 350 Nm (258 lbs ft). A six-speed DSG gearbox developed for hybrid vehicles is standard.

The electric motor is integrated into the gearbox housing, while further hybrid components include power electronics and a charger. An electro-mechanical brake servo and an electric air conditioning compressor make for energy-efficient braking and air conditioning. There are five operating modes: ‘E-mode’, ‘GTE mode’, ‘Battery Hold’, ‘Battery charge’ and ‘Hybrid Auto’. In pure electric mode (activated at the press of a button), the Golf GTE can travel up to 31 miles. Electric

    • SEAT’s first high-performance estate Leon ST (Sports Tourer) CUPRA 280 to cost Ł28,505 (manual) and Ł29,860 (DSG) OTR
    • Hottest estate in its class sports 2.0 turbocharged 280 PS engine, hitting 0-62 mph in six seconds (6.1 for manual) and limited top speed of 155 mph
    • Leon ST CUPRA 280 has no direct lower-medium class performance estate rival, offering more power and equipment for the money than anything else
    • UK debut at Daily Telegraph Outdoor & Adventure Show, 12-15 February 2015
    • Ordering for UK cars is now open, ahead of showroom launch in March 2015

SEAT has confirmed pricing and specification for the third model in its fire-breathing Leon CUPRA range, the ST CUPRA 280. Priced from Ł28,505 on-the-road, the new “Q-car” offers quite simply performance and practicality without compromise.

The sporty Spanish brand is now the only manufacturer to offer a flagship performance version in three bodystyles on one of its models. In the Leon’s case, the latest ST CUPRA 280 now joins the fold with its three-door SC and five-door Leon siblings.

The hottest of the current crop of “hot estates”, the Leon ST CUPRA 280’s two-litre turbocharged 280 PS engine can propel it from 0-62 mph in six seconds (6.1 for manual), before going onto a limited top speed of 155 mph. At the same time, whether it’s a tradesman’s trusty workhorse, or school run load-carrier, it’s still an easy car to live with.

With such an impressive amount of power, good looks, solid build quality and high equipment level, SEAT’s latest model can lay claim to having arguably no direct hot estate rival for the money. On paper, its closest

“The results of the test drive underscore our piloted driving competency”, said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. “I’d like to thank the team of Audi engineers, VW Group R&D and the Electronics Research Laboratory for making it such a great success.”
