    • First diesel plug-in hybrid with quattro drive

With the new Q7, Audi is setting standards in the premium SUV segment. 325 kilograms less weight and the low centre of mass make it extremely agile. At the same time, it is the most spacious car in its segment. Although the exterior dimensions have been reduced, it offers substantially more interior room for passengers and luggage. Its innovative assistance and infotainment systems take the SUV to the front of the pack. The efficient engines consume 26 percent less fuel on average.
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development: “The new Audi Q7 is a statement of our competence. Weighing 325 kilograms less, it sets the benchmark in its class. It is around 26 percent more fuel efficient and is equipped with the latest assistance systems, infotainment modules and connect features.”

With its lightweight, multimaterial body and an all-new chassis, it is comfortable while at the same time offering the strong performance that is typical of Audi – and that with top-notch CO2 values. Audi engineers have reduced the fuel consumption of the Q7 TDI by as much as 23 percent.
The engines set top marks in the segment of large SUVs with all-wheel drive. The first phase of UK-bound Q7 models will be powered by the latest incarnation of the 3.0 TDI engine with 272PS, which is capable of taking it from 0 to 62mph in 6.3 seconds. • Audi shows the benchmark of future design language in Los Angeles
    • Head of Development Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg: “Perfect showcase of Audi DNA”
    • Head of Design Marc Lichte: “A foretaste of the future of Audi”

Audi is launching into a new design era: At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Marc Lichte, Head of Design, is presenting the Audi prologue concept car. Lichte is giving the Audi brand a new styling direction in the large coupe.

“When he moved to Audi, Marc Lichte launched a design offensive,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Development, who brought him to Ingolstadt in 2014. “His clear philosophy and precise understanding of Audi DNA let him develop a design strategy that is opening up entirely new perspectives for us. It is progressive and highly emotional; it expresses the technological competence and quality claim of the brand perfectly. The Audi prologue is its first proponent – it is a ‘signature car’ for Audi.”

Marc Lichte himself describes the character of the show car in this way: “Audi stands for sportiness, lightweight design and the quattro permanent all-wheel drive. In the Audi prologue, we are expressing this know-how in a new form – we have put the sportiest car in the luxury segment on wheels. Our team took new approaches in both exterior and interior design.”

Audi design is now expressing progressive technology even more powerfully. The two-door coupe has a flowing, elegant shape and taut design. Its forms and lines are unmistakable and introduce many new ideas. In the clear and unobstructed interior, the architecture melds with the display and operating concept to create a new type of unit. The entire front of the instrument panel is a large touch display, and a portion of the user interface operates with a new type of OLED display made of organic LEDs.

The show car’s technology combines power, comfort and efficiency. The 4.0 TFSI produces up to 605PS of power and 750 Nm (553.2 lb-ft) of torque; it accelerates the Audi prologue from 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds. Its dynamic all-wheel steering,

    • Expertise in fuel cell technology – A7 Sportback h-tron quattro technology demonstrator ready for real-life traffic
    • Long range – more than 300 miles
    • Plug-in hybrid concept with electric quattro

It covers 310 miles on one tank of fuel – and its exhaust emits nothing more than a few drops of water: The A7 Sportback h-tron quattro uses a powerful electric drive with a fuel cell as its energy source, in combination with a hybrid battery and an additional electric motor in the rear. Its drive configuration makes the emission-free Audi A7 Sportback h-tron quattro a quattro through and through, with 170 kilowatts of power at its disposal – a new departure in fuel cell cars. There is no mechanical connection between the front and rear axles. As an e-quattro, the A7 Sportback h-tron quattro features fully electronic management of torque distribution.

“The A7 Sportback h-tron quattro is a genuine Audi – at once sporty and efficient. Conceived as an e-quattro, its two electric motors drive all four wheels,” explained Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi. “The h-tron concept car shows that we have mastered fuel cell technology. We are in a position to launch the production process as soon as the market and infrastructure are ready.”

The “h” in the name h-tron denotes the chemical element hydrogen. In visual terms the technology demonstrators that Audi has brought along to the Los Angeles Auto Show basically resemble the production models. As the label with the h-tron signet reveals, this concept car now takes its place alongside the other Audi models with alternative drive principles, the e-tron and g-tron. Externally, there is no other evidence of the fuel cell that converts hydrogen into electrical power on board the vehicle.

    • Golf SportWagen HyMotion transfers fuel cell technology to high-volume production
    • Golf is the world's first car to offer all drive types that can be implemented today

Volkswagen has presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show the world premiere of the Golf SportWagen HyMotion – a progressive research vehicle with a fuel cell drive.

As the power source of the future, hydrogen andoxygen are combined in the fuel cell to form pure water. Energy is released in this "cold combustion" process – drive energy for an electric motor that turns with zero emissions. The front wheel drive Golf SportWagen HyMotion accelerates to 62 mph in 10.0 seconds. The hydrogen is stored safely in four high-tech carbon-fibre tanks, which are located in a space-saving way in the underbody. Their fuel capacity enables a driving range of 310 miles. Refilling ofthe fuel tank of the concept car takes just three minutes.

The key drive components of the Golf SportWagen HyMotion were developed by Volkswagen Group Research in Germany. The fuel cell system, which hasa driving power of 100 kW, was conceptualised at the Volkswagen Technology Centre for Electric Traction. In addition, the concept car has a high-voltage lithium-ion battery, which stores the kinetic energy recovered from regenerative braking, assists in the starting phase of the fuel cell and adds a dynamic boost to the maximum acceleration of the Golf SportWagen. The fuel cell andbattery drive an electric motor adapted from the e-Golf.
