    The ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback has been wowing buyers with its style, practicality and refinement since its launch in 2013, and now, thanks to ŠKODA’s commitment to maximising value, customers ordering a new Spaceback get even more for their money.

    In the revised line-up, all three trim levels (S, SE Tech and SE Sport) benefit from a significant price reduction – a move that further extends the Spaceback’s value advantage over its competitors. Customers opting for a Spaceback 1.4 TSI 125PS DSG SE Tech, for example, can get behind the wheel for just £16,390 – a £1,905 saving over the previous on the road price.     The Volkswagen Golf and Passat models have been praised by vehicle safety experts at the Thatcham Research Centre, who have seen a 45 per cent drop in third party personal injury insurance claims thanks to the fitment of auto-emergency braking systems.

    The latest generation Golf went on sale in the UK in January 2013. All except for the entry-level S models have Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) as standard, with ACC including the radar sensor controlled distance monitoring system Front Assist, as well as city emergency braking and cruise control. Since launch, third party injury claims on the latest Golf are 45 per cent lower than for the equivalent ‘Small Family Car Control Group’.

    Matthew Avery, Director of Safety at Thatcham Research, said: ‘These findings are based on the equivalent of more than 7,000 Mk VII Golf models insured for a full 12 months on the road, and come from claims data from our insurance members. When we saw figures based on an initial small sample, we were surprised, as they exceeded our own performance testing. However the figures held up, even after almost doubling the sample group, and have therefore given us a glimpse of what safety on UK roads could look like in the future.’

    Although such systems are not new, it was the Golf that ’democratised safety’ and brought ACC to a wide audience. The system operates over a speed range from 30 to 160 km/h (approx. 18 to 99 mph) with a manual gearbox and with DSG.     The atmosphere will be especially highly charged at this year’s Wörthersee Tour festival because it will play host to an Audi TT clubsport turbo concept delivering a colossal 600PS and 650Nm with the help of an innovative electrically driven biturbo compressor that is close to being production ready. With its stripped-out interior, wider stance and distinctive rear wing the most extreme TT to date is intentionally reminiscent of the thoroughbred Audi 90 IMSA GTO race car of the late 1980s, so it is guaranteed to make an impact at Austria’s annual meeting for Volkswagen Group enthusiasts.

    “The electric biturbo signifies a new dimension in driving enjoyment; it boosts sprinting ability and torque and enables high peak power,” explains Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. “In our TDI engines, we are close to production readiness with this technology. Now the high-tech racer will be presented as an estate show car at the 34th GTI meeting at Wörthersee (13 to 16 May 2015). ŠKODA will also be presenting the ŠKODA Fabia R5 alongside three other sports cars.

    As many as 200,000 tuning and motorsport enthusiasts will be making the pilgrimage to Wörthersee in Austria between 13 and 16 May to indulge in their passion for fast cars. This will be ŠKODA’s sixth appearance at the GTI meeting, where the brand will be presenting five sporty models.

    ŠKODA’s designers have reinterpreted the Fabia R5 as an estate model to create the ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi show car. The green, white and black ŠKODA Fabia R5 Combi will be driving onto the stage on 18-inch alloys. At the front, a powerful bumper and wide air intakes signify the car’s rallying ambitions.
