    The Polo, T-Cross and T-Roc models have been bolstered with new, equipment-rich, UNITED edition trims. The UNITED models are distinguished by subtle badging, and bring bespoke styling, extra equipment and significantly increased value.


    The UNITED editions are based on SE trims for the T-Cross and T-Roc, and Match trim for the Polo – three already well-appointed specifications, which all feature App-Connect smartphone mirroring, alloy wheels and leather-trimmed, three-spoke multifunctional steering wheels and gear knobs. The on-the-road recommended retail prices for the UNITED edition models start at Ł17,350 for the Polo, Ł20,410 for the T-Cross, and Ł23,550 for the T-Roc. Prices for UNITED editions are below those of the Match and SE cars on which they are based, and with equipment factored in these new editions represent a value boost of up to Ł1,760, depending on model and engine.

    ŠKODA is responding to increased fleet demand for its acclaimed Scala model with the introduction of a new, highly-specified SE Technology variant. The latest model to join ŠKODA’s popular SE Technology range, the new Scala version has a unique equipment list that has been fine-tuned by the brand to appeal specifically to fleet customers and business drivers, many of whom cover higher than average annual mileages.


    As customers have come to expect from ŠKODA SE Technology models, the new Scala SE Technology is equipped with a host of features designed to make life on the road as relaxing, enjoyable and as safe as possible.     Drivers of ŠKODA’s all-electric Citigoe iV and Superb iV plug-in hybrid can now use Amazon Alexa voice assistants to start or stop charging remotely and check on the remaining range of their cars, all from the comfort of their home.


    The new features are part of a raft of upgrades added to the ŠKODA Connect service, with iV owners now able to perform a range of actions to simplify the charging and management of their electric vehicle.

    One of the highlights is motorists can now check the charge level of their vehicles’ lithium-ion battery before embarking on a journey, and if needed, can give it an extra bit of charge using solely the power of their voice without having to physically intervene.

    For the function to work, customers simply need to ensure their charging cable is connected and use the command “Alexa, ask ŠKODA, I want to start charging my car.” Similarly, the “Alexa, ask ŠKODA…” command can be used to control all of the new features added to the Alexa skill.

    In June 2020, the next generation of a lighting technology premiered in the Audi Q5: digital OLED technology. With organic light-emitting diodes (so-called OLEDs), Audi was a pioneer as far back as in 2016. Now digitalisation is ringing in a new age. This technology promises to improve road safety and is the first to allow for personalisation of the taillight signature.

    Dr. Werner Thomas, OLED technology project manager at Audi, explains: “Headlight technology has seen a rapid evolution at Audi in recent decades. In addition, we have been decisively driving the development of rear-lighting systems.” The latest milestone achievement: now the brand is the first automobile manufacturer to digitise the taillights.

    Why does Audi focus on OLED technology?


    OLED light sources are panel radiators – unlike point light sources such as LEDs using semiconductor crystals. The benefits of OLEDs: Their light is extremely homogeneous. It is infinitely dimmable and achieves very high contrast. It can be split into segments. These segments are individually controllable and can develop diverse levels of brightness, with minimal gaps between the segments. The lighting unit does not require any reflectors, optical fibres or similar optics. This makes OLED units very efficient, lightweight and flat, which considerably increases design freedom.

    Bentley Motors today announces that production of the recently unveiled new Bentayga has started at Bentley’s carbon neutral factory in Crewe, UK. Deliveries will be commencing soon with customers in Europe being the first to experience the pinnacle luxury SUV.

    This follows a comprehensive review of the social distancing measures in place that now allows Bentley production output to increase from 50 per cent to 100 per cent.

    Consequently, a small number of assembly areas have been redesigned implementing a revised takt time whilst enabling a controlled, safe working environment at a social distance of more than one-metre. All other areas will maintain a strict social distance of two-metres and mandatory facemasks will remain throughout the factory.

    As ramp up begins, the new Bentayga is reaching unprecedented levels of production quality meeting Bentley’s own exacting standards that customers have come to expect. Over 100 colleagues work on the socially -distanced Bentayga production line as the car progresses through 43 stages of manufacture.

    The seventh ŠKODA Student Concept Car, designed by 31 trainees attending the renowned ŠKODA vocational school, links the past with the present: the open-top ŠKODA Slavia pays homage to this year’s ŠKODA AUTO anniversary by commemorating the name of the first bicycles produced by Václav Laurin and Václav Klement after they founded the company in 1895. The spider variant of the ŠKODA Scala combines the contemporary compact model’s bold and exciting lines with a common design standard from the earliest days of motoring, when most automobiles were open-top vehicles. From first draft to building this one-off car, the students completed every step themselves, with support from their instructors as well as ŠKODA experts in the Design, Production and Technical Development departments. This, the seventh ŠKODA Student Car since 2014, once again showcases the high standard of training at the ŠKODA vocational school in Mladá Boleslav.


    Alois Kauer, who took over as Head of the ŠKODA Academy in February 2020, says, “The Student Car is the ŠKODA vocational school’s annual flagship project.
