Hi everyone,

I own a 1998 golf estate with 1.9 straight diesel engine (eng no.1Y) mechanical injection. Recently I had to take the head off to get a broken glow plug mount welded. Everything has went back together grand, no leaks blows or water/oil mixing etc. The only problem I have is with the timing on the fuel injector pump.

I used the proper laser tools to hold the timing correct, which included the bar for locking the camshaft at TDC on No.1, and the pin for the injector pump pulley.

The camshaft and crankshaft are bang on timed right but when they are set to TDC with the notch on the flywheel, the pin will not line up perfectly with the two holes. The flywheelhas to be moved by a very small amount.

Was wondering if anyone knew the best way to time the injector pump and get it perfect again.

At the moment there are a few symptoms:

Low down power decreased (below 2000 rpm)
High idle speed
slightly high fuel consumption

Thanks very much
