On the Highline computer readout one of the functions is Oil Temperature.

All very interesting but there is no mention in the handbook as to what the correct temperature range is.

ie. at what temperature is the oil getting too hot and the driver should be concerned?

Any ideas?

Well as a general rule its going to be the same as the water temperature. The normal operating temperature is 90C on the gauge. I've had the oil showing 96C while cruising on the motorway at 80mph. The temp gauge shows 90C. The water is connected to the block, the oil circulates around the block and the oil has a cooler.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. ;)

Well, I haven't needed an oil temp. readout since my Austin Healey Sprite days and so that that is the first thing I removed from the MFD!! My motto is, less information, less to worry about.

Here in the UK, I am seeing 85 - 100 and from a post in Bankok;

Well, I have some report regarding operating the car in such hot hot whether - today highest temp is about 42 C

- Engine Oil Temp can be about 110 C When driving high speed in Motorway.

Mines running at around 96 - 103 C all dependant on whether there are any hills!!

Water temp static at 90

Oil temp and water temp are only vaguely related,the oil will gain heat from being pressurised by the pump,heat from the Turbocharger,therefore heat from the exhaust system, and being forced through the tiny clearances.

I mean I'm getting 110 sometimes on the motorway! Is that excessive for 5w 30 oil?

It all depends where the oil temp sensor is located . The temp varies throughout the engine. The best location is immediately after the oil goes through the oil cooler.

But how do I know ahaha! I'm guessing it's not a massive concern as it has to burn off the excess water

It's fine. It will rise in temperature depending on driving style or if it's doing a DPF regen.

Just stick to 10,000 mile oil change interval.

if you see 140 degrees then get worried.
